About Automatically Creating Separation Lines for a Variable Group
Use the following Variable Group commands from the Catalog tab to automatically insert construction lines and decorative boxes around the members of a group:
Horizontal Cells—Creates vertical separation lines, horizontal cells, without cutaway ends.
Vertical Cells—Creates horizontal separation lines, vertical cells, without cutaway ends.
Horizontal Cells with Box—Creates vertical separation lines, horizontal boxed cells with cutaway ends.
Vertical Cells with Box—Creates horizontal separation lines, vertical boxed cells with cutaway ends.

These tools create separation lines around shapes. Previously drawn construction lines are ignored.
You can have multiple members in the same cell. The following rules apply when creating separation lines for multiple members of a variable groupshape:
It is assumed that shapes are in separate cells when their bounding boxes do not overlap.
Shapes are in the same cell when the bounding boxes of two shapes overlap in the direction of automatic separation.
Horizontal separation lines place the two components in different cells.
The distance between the automatically drawn lines is proportional to the average distance between the members of the group.
Use the Horizontal Cells with Box tool to automatically create a box and wiggly caps:
The box and wiggly caps can be edited and the groupshape changed.
