To Import a DXF or DWG File as a Drawing
1. Click File > Open. The File Open dialog box opens.
2. Select DXF (*.dxf) or DWG (*.dwg) in the Type box. The DXF or DWG files in the working directory are listed.
3. Select the DXF or DWG file that you want to import or browse to the required file.
4. Click Import. The Import New Model dialog box opens. Drawing is the default.
Assembly is the default when the DXF or DWG file contains at least one 3D solid entity. You must explicitly set the model type to Drawing to import the 3D solid entities along with the 2D entities in the files.
5. Accept the default file name or type a new name.
6. Click OK. The Import DXF or Import DWG dialog box opens.
7. Select one or more layouts or drawing sheets for the imported drawing from the Space name layout list. If you select more than one layout, the imported file creates a multiple-sheet drawing.
8. Under Import dimensions, select one of the following:
As dimensions
As separate entities
As symbols
9. From the Map Text Symbols To list, select the font type that you want to assign to imported text symbols.
This option is available when you import a drawing in a new file.
This option overrides the intf2d_in_symbol_font configuration option for the session.
For more information, see Mapping Imported Text Symbols.
10. Select the required import options:
Import associative dimensions—Imports dimensions retaining their original association with the relevant draft entities when dimensions are associative before import.
Import associative dimensions shows selection and Recompute associative dimensions is available when you set the intf2d_in_assoc_dim_geom configuration option to yes.
Recompute associative dimensions—Recalculates dimension values or the distance of the draft entities from the dimension witness lines before associating the dimensions with the draft entities closest to the dimension witness lines. Use this option with the Import associative dimensions or Automatically associate dimensions option.
Recompute associative dimensions shows selection when you set the intf2d_in_recompute_dim_value configuration option to yes.
Automatically associate dimensions—Automatically associates the imported dimensions with the relevant draft entities when the dimensions are not associative before import.
Automatically associate dimensions shows selection and Recompute associative dimensions is available when you set the auto_associate_dimensions configuration option to yes.
Import 3DSOLID entities—Imports 3D solid entities as views of an assembly.
Import 3DSOLID entities is available only if the imported DXF file consists of at least one 3D solid entity.
Import blocks as symbols—Imports AutoCAD blocks as symbols. For each block instance a separate symbol definition is used.
Import points—Imports DXF or DWG point entities as drawing points.
Create variable size sheet—Selected by default. Drawing sheets of different sizes, especially for a multiple-sheet drawing with sheets of variable size, are created depending on the information contained in the imported file.
Create multi-line text—Imports the multiple-line text in the imported file as a single multiple-line note.
11. Click the Mapping Properties tab to customize the following properties:
Clear the layer name box to block the import of a layer.

Text Fonts
12. Click Open log window to display the import log file in the Information Window.
13. Click Save Mappings to save the current import settings on the Mapping Properties tab of the Import DXF or the Import DWG dialog box to the or the file.
14. Click OK to open the *.dxf or the *.dwg drawing file. Configuration options corresponding to the options on the Import DXF or Import DWG dialog box are added with their current values to the file.
