Data Exchange > Interface > Working with Data Exchange Formats > Creo Elements/Direct > Importing Creo Elements/Direct Drawings > To Import a Creo Elements/Direct File as a Non-Associative Drawing
To Import a Creo Elements/Direct File as a Non-Associative Drawing
1. Click File > Open. The File Open dialog box opens.
2. Select Creo Elements/Direct Drawing (.mi, .bi, .bdl) in the Type box.
3. Select a *.mi, *.bi, or a *.bdl file or browse to the required file.
4. Click Import. The Import New Model dialog box opens.
*
Drawing is the default option when you select a *.mi or a *.bi file. The model type is set as Part or Assembly by default when you select a *.bdl file, depending on whether the selected file contains part or assembly models.
5. If you selected a *.bdl file, change Part or Assembly to Drawing to import the *.bdl file as a part or assembly drawing.
6. Accept the default file name or type a new name for the file.
7. Click OK. The Import MI dialog box opens. All sheets of the drawing in the Sheets list are automatically selected and the imported file creates a multiple-sheet drawing.
8. Under Views, click one of the following:
No views—Imports views as draft entities.
2D views—Imports and maps the Creo Elements/Direct annotation views to 2D views. This option is selected by default.
9. Under Import dimensions, click one of the following:
As dimensions
As separate entities
As symbols
10. From the Map Text Symbols To list, select the font type that you want to assign to imported text symbols.
*
This option is available when you import a drawing in a new file.
This option overrides the intf2d_in_symbol_font configuration option for the session.
For more information, see Mapping Imported Text Symbols.
11. Click the following options to import associative dimensions and recalculate their values:
Import associative dimensions—Imports dimensions retaining their original association with the relevant draft entities when dimensions are associative before import.
*
The Import associative dimensions option is available and is selected by default on the Import MI dialog box when you set the intf2d_in_assoc_dim_geom configuration option to yes.
Recompute associative dimensions—Recalculates dimension values or the distance of the draft entities from the dimension witness lines before associating the dimensions with the draft entities closest to the dimension witness lines. This option is available when you select Import associative dimensions. Recompute associative dimensions shows selection on the Import MI dialog box when you set the intf2d_in_recompute_dim_value configuration option to yes.
*
The prefix and suffix of the MI drawing dimensions are imported as part of the dimension text and not as the prefix and suffix of the Creo Parametric dimensions. Make sure that you select the Import associative dimensions and the Recompute associative dimensions options so that the prefix and suffix of the MI drawing dimensions are created for the associative dimensions showing their real value.
12. Click the following options to import parts and points:
Import parts as layers—Imports the Creo Elements/Direct Drafting parts as layers with the same names as the parts. This option is selected by default.
If this option is not selected, parts are imported as separate entities that are not included in the layers.
Import symbol parts as symbols—Imports and maps the Creo Elements/Direct symbol parts to symbols in Creo Parametric. This option is selected by default.
*
If this option is not selected, symbol parts are not imported as symbols. In the case of leadered symbols, when symbol parts are not imported as symbols, the leaders do not remain attached to the symbols.
Import points—Imports point entities as drawing points.
13. Retain the following default selections on the Import MI dialog box:
Create variable size sheet—Creates drawing sheets of different sizes, especially for a multiple-sheet drawing with sheets of variable size.
Create multi-line text—Imports multiple-line text as a single multiple-line note.
14. Click the Mapping Properties tab to customize the following properties:
Hatch line fonts
Text fonts
Colors
Layers
Line fonts
15. Click the tab for colors, layers, line fonts, hatch line fonts, or text fonts and select a cell in the MI to Creo Parametric mapping table to change the value of the color, layer, line, or text font.
The following options on the Colors tab allow you to map MI colors to standard Creo Parametric or user-defined colors:
Creo Parametric—Maps MI standard colors to standard Creo Parametric colors.
MI—Maps MI standard colors to user-defined colors in Creo Parametric that have the same RGB values.
16. Click Open log window to display the import log file in the Information Window.
17. Click Save Mappings to save the current import settings on the Mapping Properties tab to the mi_import.pro mapping file.
18. Click OK to open the *.mi, *.bi, or the *.bdl file as a non-associative drawing. Configuration options and their values that correspond with the import settings on the Import MI dialog box that were modified at runtime are saved to the current_session.pro file.
