Getting Started with Real-Time Collaboration in Creo+
Enabling Real-Time Collaboration in Creo+
In Creo+, you can enable collaboration by creating a new collaboration session or joining an existing session. The collaboration commands are available on the top-right corner of the Creo+ window.
After connecting to a session, the name of the session is displayed in the title bar of Creo+. Also, you will see a Collaboration folder listed in the folder browser, showing the current collaboration session.
Creating a New Collaboration Session
1. On the top-right corner of the Creo+ window, click to create a new collaboration session.
If a model is already open in Creo+, a warning appears asking you if you want to retain or erase objects from the session. If you choose to retain, then the model is automatically saved in the collaboration session. If you choose to erase, it is removed from the Creo+ session and you can select a new model for the collaboration session.
2. After creating a new session, the New Collaboration Session dialog box appears. By default, a system-generated name is available for the new session. You can edit it to specify another name. Click OK.
A new collaboration session with the specified session name is now created. You can now start creating and editing objects in the collaboration session.
After creating a collaboration session, if any unsupported model types are detected, such as drawings or extensions other than ASM or PRT, all commands available in the collaboration session are disabled and a warning message is displayed requesting you to erase all objects in the session before entering the real-time collaboration session.
Joining a Collaboration Session
You can join an existing collaboration session from any of the following locations:
Creo+ Portal—In the Collaboration portal page, identify a collaboration session from the sessions available on the portal page. Click . The session file is automatically downloaded. Run Creo+ to open the session and start working in it.
Creo+ application—On the top-right corner of the Creo+ window, click . A list of the five most recent active sessions appears. Select and click a session to join.
Click Show More to open the portal page in the browser tab and view a list of all sessions created by you, sessions shared with you, and recently active sessions. The Show More command is enabled only when more than five collaboration sessions are available.
Exiting a Session
To exit a real-time collaboration session, in the top-right corner of the Creo+ window, click .
Before exiting the collaboration session, if there are models open in Creo+, a warning message appears asking you if the open models are to be retained or erased. The retained models are saved to the collaboration session, whereas the erased models are deleted from the session.
Simple Use Case Workflow
This section explains a simple use-case workflow while working in a collaboration session. Here A, B, and C are three users working on the same assembly in a session.
User A opens Creo+ and connects to real-time collaboration by creating a new session, and then shares the same session with user B and user C. User A opens the assembly, for example A.asm and starts working on the assembly. The changes made by user A are saved automatically.
User B and C join the same real-time collaboration session that was shared by user A. This gives them access to the models and components that are available in the session of user A. The changes made by any user are saved automatically and are available in real-time to other users of the session.
Using Search
You can use the search bar on the portal page to find collaboration sessions. You can search based on the session names or model names stored in the collaboration session. Enter your search term in the field and click to initiate the search. The search functionality scans all the collaboration sessions available, including sessions that are not listed on the portal page.
You can also search for collaboration session using the filter. The collaboration sessions are filtered based on session name, created by, modified date, or description. The filter is applied only to the collaboration sessions listed on the portal page.
