Reuse Masterdata
Easily use a Masterdata as a starting place for a new part. With the Duplicate Masterdata command, you can duplicate an existing Masterdata to create a new Masterdata, and then make changes to it.
For example, if you have a Masterdata that contains 50 parts and you need to modify just two of them to create a new product, use the Duplicate Masterdata command.
The new Masterdata will
Have a new, unique ID (ELID).
Retain links to all of the revisions of models, drawings, attachments, and linked Masterdata of the original.
Receive the default initial State for a new item.
Receive the default initial revision value as set in the XML file.
Does not retain links to any top level Masterdata.
To reuse Masterdata,
1. Select a Masterdata in the workspace.
2. Click Structure and then, in the Modify group, click Duplicate Masterdata. Alternatively, right-click the Masterdata and, in the shortcut menu, click Duplicate Masterdata. A dialog box containing information from the original Masterdata opens.
3. Type the attribute information for this new Masterdata.
4. Click OK. The Masterdata appears in the workspace.
Once you've made your modifications to the part, use New Version Replace for an easy way to find and replace a part in your assemblies.
*
By default, the new Masterdata name is Copy of x. If you are using a Rolling Number Generator or other custom business logic to create the names of Masterdata, the new name will be based on that logic.
