Create and link Masterdata
When you save a model or drawing, a Masterdata record is automatically created. For 3D models, Masterdata is automatically created for each part of an assembly and linked to the Masterdata record for the assembly as children. You can also create Masterdata without any associations, then link models, drawings, or other documents to the Masterdata after it is created.
To create a parent Masterdata for a model, drawing, or document:
A Masterdata is automatically created when you save a model or drawing in Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager, but you can create a new Masterdata in the Workspace. A parent Masterdata is the top level, which may or may not have child Masterdata associated with it.
1. Select a model, drawing, or document in the Workspace.
2. Click Home and then, in the Edit group, click the arrow next to Add New. Alternatively, right-click the model, drawing or document and, in the shortcut menu, click Add New.
3. Click Masterdata. The New Masterdata dialog box opens.
4. You must type a value for the Name box. All other boxes are optional. The boxes which cannot be edited are shown in grey.
5. You may click Apply to save your changes as you edit the record.
6. Click OK to save and close the Masterdata.
The Masterdata is created and saved when you click Apply or OK. If you click Cancel before you click either of the previous two buttons, the Masterdata is not created.
To create a Masterdata without links:
You can create a Masterdata that is not initially linked with any item in the database, and then create links manually.
1. Click File > New > Masterdata in the Workspace menu.
2. Type a name in the Name box and click Apply.
3. Enter other information.
4. Click OK to create the Masterdata.
*
Masterdata created from the File menu is placed in your Recent List. This Masterdata is linked to any models or drawings until you drag and drop or copy and paste items into the newly created Masterdata.
To link existing Masterdata with a model, drawing, or document:
As described above, you can create Masterdata without associating a model, drawing, or document. Once the Masterdata is created, you can associate it to the appropriate item.
1. Create an unassociated Masterdata, or locate the existing Masterdata you want to associate.
2. Select the item you want to associate and drag it onto the Masterdata.
3. Expand the Masterdata to verify that the link was created.
