Edit a BOM
The BOM Editor provides a table view of your BOM. In the BOM Editor you can select the parts and assemblies to be included in the BOM report, modify names and quantities, manage position numbers, and add additional Masterdata to the BOM structure (typically, non-modeled parts).
To open the BOM Editor, you must have a BOM Editor license.
Use the BOM Editor to

Open or Save a BOM Checkpoint. See Create a BOM Checkpoint.
Send a BOM report to another program. See Send a BOM to another program.
Add a Split to represent one part in multiple lines in a BOM. See Split a part in the BOM.
Remove a part from its owner assembly. Removing a part from an owner assembly removes all links to that assembly. It does not delete the part.
View all of the BOM versions. See Work with BOM versions
Save a BOM as a new version. See Work with BOM versions
Generate and save BOM reports. See Generate a BOM report.
Create a BOM by doing a Create (scan) a BOM:automatically on the associated model or drawing assembly. Update the BOM with Rescan.
Add new or existing Masterdata to the BOM (see below).
To open the BOM Editor,

1. Select a Masterdata or an assembly in the workspace.
2. Click Structure and then, in the BOM group, click BOM Editor. Alternatively, right-click and, in the shortcut menu, click BOM > BOM Editor. The BOM Editor dialog box opens. If you select a model that is linked to more than one Masterdata, select the Masterdata from an existing Masterdata. The Edit BOM tab displays the current version of the BOM.
3. To open a specific version of a BOM, click File > Open By Version. The BOM Configuration dialog box opens.
4. Click the box in the Version column to select a BOM version.
*
The older BOM versions are not editable.
The BOM Editor shows default link attributes. You can add additional attributes to the layout.
Add Masterdata attributes to the BOM Editor layout
1. Right-click the whitespace in the BOM Editor and select Layout > Masterdata.
2. Select all the attributes that you would like to appear as columns in the BOM Editor. The BOM Editor displays these columns for all Masterdata you open.
Your Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager Administrator can add additional link attributes. See the Attributes for information about attributes.
Add new Masterdata to the BOM
1. In the BOM Editor, click the arrow next to Add.
2. Click New Masterdata. The new Masterdata item is added to the BOM and it automatically receives a new position number.
3. Type a name for the Masterdata in the Name box.
4. You may need to enter other attributes for the new Masterdata as configured by your administrator. To enter values in these fields, either use copy/paste or manually type values.
You can create as many Masterdata as needed.
Add existing Masterdata to the BOM
1. In the BOM Editor, select the Masterdata element where you want to place the existing Masterdata and click the arrow next to Add and select Existing Masterdata. The Add Existing Masterdata dialog box opens.
2. Search for the Masterdata to add. Use the drop-down menu to choose where you want to search. Choose Recent List, Favorites, or the Search.
3. Select the Masterdata item, and click OK. Use CTRL to select multiple items at once.
4. Continue to add Masterdata to the BOM, or close the dialog and return to the BOM Editor.
*
If you add Masterdata that already exists in the same level of the BOM, a Confirm Split message appears. When you continue, the quantity of the added Masterdata will be 0 and all link attributes, including the position number, will be copied from the original.
If you add Masterdata that does not already exist, the quantity of the added Masterdata will be 1 and it will receive a new position number.
BOM Editor attributes (consist of Masterdata attributes and link attributes)
Name: The name of the Masterdata, usually the corporate part number. It may also be automatically generated from the number generator.
Version: The BOM revisions differ from the individual Masterdata revisions because they represent revisions of the complete BOM structure, including specific revisions of Masterdata. To select a revision, click File > Open By Version and select the revision from the drop-down list.
Show in report: Check Show in report to include the part or assembly in the report. Uncheck the item to exclude it from the report. Defaults in the Show in report column are set by the BOM Indicator attribute, which can be set in Modeling.
Pos No: The position numbers assigned to the BOM. To assign BOM position numbers, see Manage BOM position numbers.
Description: The description of the Masterdata. Changing the Description changes the name displayed in the Structure column.
Modeled Qty: The actual number of parts modeled in the CAD application.
Actual Qty: The actual number of parts required.
Spare Qty: The number of extras (spares) to allow for breakage, loss or assembly line damage.
Total Qty: The combined actual and spare quantities. The BOM Editor creates the total for you.
Manually Managed Item: When you manually add a Masterdata to the BOM, the attribute tells Scan BOM not to remove this part from the BOM when it performs the scan.
Modify the BOM structure and attributes
Click a column header to sort the items based on their values on that column. The BOM will maintain its assembly structure. For example, if you click the Name column header the parts and subassemblies will be sorted by name within each assembly.
Edit the contents of most cells. If you click a cell and the background remains white, you can edit the contents of that cell.
Click to save changes (assemblies with pending changes have the modified icon ).
Click to discard all the pending changes.
Click to update the BOM Editor with the changes from the database.
