Manage BOM position numbers
Position numbers identify the location of a part in a list. You can order BOM items and assign BOM position numbers in
• the BOM Editor
• Consolidated BOM reports
• Flattened BOM reports
• BOM reports generated from BOM Checkpoints or BOM versions (although your changes cannot be saved)
|
You cannot manage position numbers in structured BOM reports.
|
To manage position numbers in the BOM Editor,
1. Open the BOM Editor.
2. Order the Masterdata.
◦ Select an item (or multiple items) and use the
up or down arrows to change that item's order in the list. Use CTRL to select multiple items at once.
Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager automatically renumbers position numbers to reflect the changed order.
◦ Click a column header to sort the items based on that column. Click it again to inverse the sort order.
3. Reassign position numbers. Select from the following methods:
◦ Select multiple items and click
to reassign the position numbers. Enter an
Initial value and
Increment, then click
OK. The default values are defined in the XML configuration file.
◦ Click
to renumber the children of a selected item. Enter an
Initial value and
Increment, then click
OK. The default values are defined in the XML configuration file.
◦ Assign specific position numbers by editing the value in the Pos No cell. The new value must be a positive integer.
4. Click
to save your changes.
| When you order or reassign position numbers in the BOM Editor, the assembly maintains its structure. The top parent item in an assembly does not have a position number. |
To manage position numbers in consolidated or flattened reports,
1. Generate a consolidated BOM report. To help you identify items, Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager displays:
◦ or
: the items are parts or assemblies.
◦ : the items are shared.
◦ : the items are locked.
◦ : at least one item is locked (but not all items).
◦ : at least one of the items has been modified.
In the Pos No column:
◦ *: more than one position number is available.
2. If you'd like to see the parent assembly and the position number for each consolidated item, Click the arrow next to
.
3. Order the Masterdata. Select from the following methods:
◦ Select an item (or multiple items) and use the
up or down arrows to change that item's order in the list. Use CTRL to select multiple items at once.
Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager automatically renumbers position numbers to reflect the changed order.
You can move any item except locked items. For example, you can move an item up on the list until you reach a locked item, at which point
becomes disabled.
4. Click a column header to sort the items based on that column. Click it again to inverse the sort order.
5. Reassign position numbers. Select from the following methods:
◦ Select multiple items and click
Renumber selected items. Enter an
Initial value and
Increment, then click
OK. The default values are defined in the XML configuration file.
◦ Click
Renumber all to renumber all items in the report. Enter an
Initial value and
Increment, then click
OK. The default values are defined in the XML configuration file.
◦ Assign specific position numbers by editing the value in the Pos No cell. The new value must be a positive integer.
When you reassign position numbers, Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager automatically applies your changes to all consolidated items in the same line.
| In BOM reports, you may see duplicate position numbers. WHY? 1. More than one alternative is available for that part. 2. Consolidated and flattened reports do not show the assembly structure, and all sub-assemblies assign the same numbers to their child parts. Create unique position numbers for these items with Renumber all. |
