To Create a Pattern
1. Select one or more faces to be patterned. A Live Toolbar opens.
2. On the Live Toolbar, click the arrow next to .
3. Select Unidirectional or Bidirectional from the list on the Live Toolbar. An Options Toolbar appears. Expand the Options Toolbar to open the Floating Dashboard.

* On the Options Toolbar, you can change the pattern type by clicking the arrow selecting a different pattern type.
4. Select a pattern type, Linear or Rotational, from the Type list.
5. In the box next to the Type list, type the number of pattern instances to create. By default, 2 instances are created.
6. Select one of the following reference entities in the graphics window to define the pattern in a direction:
Straight edge
Plane or planar surface
Axis of a coordinate system
Linear curve
Datum axis
The selected reference appears in the Direction collector. A direction handle or a rotational dragger appears in the graphics window depending on the pattern type you have selected in step 4.
7. To specify the increment for the pattern dimension in the selected direction, pull the dragger. Alternatively, type an increment value in the Spacing box. To reverse the direction of the pattern, pull the dragger in the opposite direction or enter a negative increment value.
8. For a bidirectional pattern, specify the patterning options for the first and the second directions by repeating steps 3 through 7.
9. To attach geometry to the pattern, select the Attach geometry check box.
10. Select the Maintain rounds and chamfers check box to maintain the selected rounds and chamfers that are at the boundary of between the selection and the attached geometry. The attributes of rounds and chamfers are retained while they are recreated.
11. Middle-click to complete the operation.
