About Working with Mass Property Parameters
The mass properties of a part or assembly is calculated based on either the actual geometry of the object or on user-assigned parameter values. You can generate a mass properties report using one of the following sources:
Geometry and density—Calculates mass properties based on model geometry and density.
Geometry and parameters—Calculates mass properties based on user-assigned alternate parameter values. When the alternate parameters are not specified, the parameter values derived from the model geometry are used.
Fully assigned—Calculates mass properties based on parameter values from a mass properties file. If the file is incomplete, a report is not generated.
When you generate a mass properties report, it appears in an INFORMATION WINDOW. The report is written to a file in the current working directory named objectname.m_p where objectname is the name of the part or assembly.
