About the Selection Workflow in 3D Mode
In the Creo Direct 3D mode, you can begin your modeling operation by first selecting the object or the action. The Help topics on 3D geometry creation and modification procedures describe only one workflow considering ease-of-use.
Object-Action Workflow
For the object-action workflow, you select a geometric entity before you begin operations on it.
For example, you can create an extrusion using the object-action workflow by performing following actions:
1. In 3D mode, select a sketched region in the graphics window. A Live Toolbar appears.
2. On the Live Toolbar, click .
Alternatively, click Home > Extrude. An Options Toolbar appears in the graphics window with the applicable options. A dragger or its handles also appear on the selected entities in most cases. You can modify the entity using the dragger, the Options Toolbar, or the Ribbon.
Once a geometry tool is active, you can select additional entities to perform the same operation.
Action-Object Workflow
For the action-object workflow, click a tool or command (button) on the Ribbon before selecting a geometric entity. For example you can create an extrusion using the action-object workflow by performing the following actions:
1. Click Home > Extrude.
2. Select a sketch region on the graphics window. An Options Toolbar, which has the options specific to the selected tool (button), appears.
After you click a button on the ribbon and move the pointer over the model, the selectable entities for performing the operation are pre-highlighted. You can then select one or more entities. For example, if you click Extrude on Ribbon and move the pointer over geometry in the graphics window, the sketches and sketch regions are pre-highlighted.
