Entering Shafts
The following table describes the part parameters required for shaft.
Parameter
Type
Description
Base Failure Rate
Real (Failures/Million Cycles). Used in Lambda b calculation.
The base or manufacturer-supplied failure rate entered is used to determine a calculated failure rate. The failure rate is calculated given from the equation Lambda b = 1E6 / N where N is the number of cycles to failure at the material endurance limit.
Tensile Strength
Real (kpsi). Used in Cf calculation.
The tensile strength of the shaft material. For more information, see Tensile Strength Values for Shafts.
Filter Size
Real (microns). Used in Ccp calculation.
The system filter size in microns.
Flow Rate - Actual
Real (Gallons/Minute). Used in Ctlf calculation.
The actual flow in gallons/minute.
Max Specified Flow
Real (Gallons/Minute). Used in Ctlf calculation.
The maximum pump specification flow in gallons/minute.
Finish
Choice List. Used in Cf calculation.
The appropriate type of surface finish. Choices include Polished, Ground, and more.
Casing Type
Choice List. Used in Ctlf calculation.
The correct pump casing type. Choices are:
Ordinary Volute
Modified Concentric
Double Volute
Unbalanced Force
Real (lb). Used in Cdy calculation.
The force created from an unequal distribution of forces on the pump shaft from varying fluid pressures.
Modulus of Elasticity
Real (psi). Used in Cdy calculation.
The modulus of elasticity in psi.
Moment of Inertia N
Real (in). Used in Cdy calculation.
For area N, the moment of inertia in inches.
*
The next several parameters are related to shaft deflection. For more information, see Shaft Deflection Measurements.
Moment of Inertia M
Real (in). Used in Cdy calculation.
For area M, the moment of inertia in inches.
Moment of Inertia L
Real (in). Used in Cdy calculation.
For area L, the moment of inertia in inches.
Moment of Inertia X
Real (in). Used in Cdy calculation.
For area X, the moment of inertia in inches.
N
Real (in). Used in Cdy calculation.
An area used in measuring shaft deflection.
M
Real (in). Used in Cdy calculation.
An area used in measuring shaft deflection.
L
Real (in). Used in Cdy calculation.
An area used in measuring shaft deflection.
X
Real (in). Used in Cdy calculation.
An area used in measuring shaft deflection.
Temperature Rise
Real (Degrees C). Used in Ct calculation.
The temperature rise from the ambient subassembly temperature to this component. The temperature rise plus the ambient temperature is equal to the operating temperature of the device.
Cycles/Hour
Real
The number of cycles/hour. This is required to convert failure ratings from failures/cycle to failures/hour.
