Spare Locations
The three spare locations described in the following table are supported. These locations need not be physically distinct, but they can have logical meaning instead.
Location
Description
Onsite
Onsite spares exist at the site where the component is operating and maintenance actions are performed. While offsite and repair shop locations need not exist, an onsite spares pool must always exist.
Offsite
Offsite spares exist at a site external to the system and serve to replenish the onsite spares. Although the offsite spares are often stored in a warehouse or depot, the offsite storage location can be a location at the same facility as the component or system.
Repair Shop
A site where more complicated repair operations on a component are performed. The repair shop might be the facility where the component was originally manufactured. The repair shop might be an external shop that is used when repairs are complex and the repair resources necessary are not available onsite. A repair shop might also refer to a situation where external repair resources come to your facility to perform specialized repair operations. When external resources perform a repair at your facility, you still specify the overall time in which the component or system is “at” the repair shop.
