Inserting a Library Diagram into a New or Existing Fault Tree
You use the Library Browse window to insert a diagram in an FTA Library file into a new or existing fault tree in a System file. Using this insertion method is the same as copying a record in the FTA Table in one System file and pasting the record into the FTA Table in another System file. In this case, gate and event information for the library diagram is copied into the specified location in the FTA Table in the System file.
1. In the System file, select the FTA Table to make it active.
2. If you want to insert the library diagram as a child to a gate in an existing tree, select that particular gate in either the table or the diagram.
3. Select FTA > Browse Libraries. The Library Browse window opens in the pinned mode.
For more information about this auto-hide window, see Library Browse Window.
4. In its Search pane, do the following:
a. For Search for, select FTA Diagrams.
b. Supply the search criteria to use. For more information, see FTA Diagrams Search Criteria.
If you do not enter any search criteria, when you initiate the search, all diagrams in enabled FTA Diagram Library files are retrieved and shown in the Results pane.
c. To initiate the search, click Search or press Enter.
Search Button
Enable FTA Diagram Library files are searched for diagram matches and search results are shown in the Results pane.
5. In its Results pane, do the following:
a. Locate the library diagram to insert in the System file and select the row containing this record.
b. Click Insert. The Branch Insert Location window opens by default.
In the Options window, FTA > FTA branch insert location controls whether this window opens. By default, Prompt is selected so that it opens. If another choice is selected, it does not open. Instead, the selected insertion behavior is performed. For more information, see FTA User Options.
c. If the Branch Insert Location window opens, indicate whether you want to insert the diagram as a child of the selected gate (default) or as a top gate.
If you select Do not ask me this again, the opening of this window is turned off for subsequent diagram insertions. The last choice you made in the window becomes the default for FTA branch insert location. To have this window open once again, you must select Prompt for this option.
The Library Browse window remains open in case you want to insert additional library diagrams into the System file.
6. When you are finished inserting library diagrams into the System file, close the Library Browse window.
Once a library diagram is inserted in your System file, you may need to modify it to better reflect the operation of your system. For more information, see Fault Tree How-Tos.

In the Library Browse window, you can double-click any diagram listed in the Results pane to insert it in the System file. Additionally, you can use the standard Windows drag-and-drop technique to insert a library diagram into the System file. In the Results pane, click the row for the diagram and hold down the mouse button while dragging the mouse cursor over to the System file. A diagram icon is attached to the mouse cursor. Release the mouse button when the icon is placed over the appropriate gate to paste the diagram as a child to this gate. To insert the diagram as a top gate, you must hold down the Shift key as you perform the drag-and-drop procedure.
