FRACAS Lookup Table File Searches
When the data values that you enter into a FRACAS table match criteria specified in a key record, the data for the fields associated with that record are copied from the FRACAS Lookup Table file into the System file. Information about how FRACAS Lookup Table files are searched follows.
FRACAS Lookup Table files are searched in the specified file order first and then by the record number in each file. No wildcard characters or filters are supported during the entry of FRACAS data. If multiple matches are found during a lookup table search, the data for the first match found in the FRACAS Lookup Table file is copied into the System file. For information about setting the search order, see Setting the Search Order for System and Library Files.
You can use the same FRACAS field as a key in multiple FRACAS Lookup Table files. The first match for each unique key record is used.
If a lookup results in the modification of a FRACAS field that is a key field in another FRACAS Lookup Table file, this lookup is performed. To avoid infinite loops, circular lookups are handled.
Changing data in a key field on a parent table does not trigger a lookup. Only entering or modifying key fields on the table associated with the FRACAS Lookup Table file triggers its being searched. If you modify a key field on a parent table, you must manually refresh the lookup data copied into the table. For more information, see Refreshing FRACAS Lookup Data in a Parent Table.
If FRACAS Data Lookup Table files are enabled for the Project, when you import data into a System file, data lookups are performed if fields in FRACAS tables are modified. You can turn this functionality off in the Import Wizard. For more information, see Importing FRACAS Lookup Table Data.
