Creating a Defect
You can create a defect or associate a defect with a remote defect using the New Defect action that opens the New Defect window.
To create or associate a remote defect, perform the following steps:
1. Access the New Defect action in one of the following ways:
Select New  > New Defect from the actions menu on the information pages of objects that can be changed, such as parts and documents.
Select New > New Defect from the toolbar or row action menu of the Folder Contents table, available from Products, Projects, or Libraries.
From the Associated Defects table, select New Defect.
2. The New Defect window divides the creation of a defect into the following steps. You may navigate to any step for which the link is enabled. Steps can be completed in any order. The attribute names and the order in which they appear in the steps can be customized by an administrator.

If your site has security labels enabled, you may see the Set Security Labels step.
For more information about setting security labels, see Setting Security Labels while Creating an Object.
Set Attributes—Specifies how the defect is created and also defines the associated attributes. For more information, see Creating a Defect—Setting Attributes.
Select Affected Objects—Specifies the affected objects, such as parts and documents, that are related to the defect. For more information, see Creating a Defect—Selecting Affected Objects.
Set Attachments—Attaches content items that are meaningful only in the context of this defect. These attachments can never be checked in or checked out on their own. For more information, access Help from the Set Attachments table.
3. Click Finish to create the defect. A confirmation message appears after the defect is created successfully. The defect is then available in the Folder Contents table of the product or the project. It also appears as a part of your assignments in the Tasks table.
