Part Attributes
The following table describes (in alphabetical order) attributes related to parts and, in some cases, specifically advanced configurable parts.
Attributes are values that you enter when creating or updating a part, or properties that are assigned to a part. The attributes display in fields and columns throughout the explorer.
*
Your site may define other attributes for a part or part usage link in addition to those that appear below. Also, your site determines which attributes display, whether they are mandatory or optional, and the order and grouping of the attributes.
Field
Description
Assembly Mode
Identifies the type of the part.
This field is required when you create a new part, and it can be updated. The following options are available:
Separable --The part is an assembly that can be disassembled without destroying it.
Inseparable --The part is an assembly that, once built, cannot be disassembled without destroying it.
Component --The part has no child parts; it is broken down to the lowest structure level.
CAGE Code
Identifies the CAGE of the submitting entity. Available only if Windchill Aerospace and Defense is installed.
Classification
Classification is used for organizing and defining object types, associating attributes with object types, and as a basis for navigation structures. Available only if Windchill PartsLink is installed.
The following options are available:
Do not classify -- Indicates you do not want to specify a classification for the part.
Choose classifications -- Indicates you want to specify classifications for the part.
Context Name
Identifies the specific context (that is, a particular product or library in Windchill PDMLink) with which the part is associated.
You choose the context when you create a part.
Context Type
Identifies whether the part is associated with a product or a library.
In Product Structure Explorer, you can select the context type from a drop-down list when you create a part. Following your selection, the Context Name drop-down list is populated with appropriate options based on your choice of context type.
*
The drop-down list displays recently used contexts. To access all applicable contexts, click Locate.
Created
The date the part was created.
Created By
The person who created the part.
Created From
Indicates the part from which the advanced configurable part was created. This action can be done in Product Structure Explorer by selecting File > New > Advanced Configurable Part From Part. This attribute is only displayed for advanced configurable parts.
Contract Number
Identifies the contract number for which the CDRL or SDRL is being submitted. Available only if Windchill Aerospace and Defense is installed.
Default Unit
Identifies the unit of measurement of the quantity on the part master. This field is required when you create a part and can be updated. The following options are available:
each
as needed
kilograms
meters
liters, square meters, cubic meters
Description
Optional text that differentiates the object from others of its kind.
*
This attribute is not available for parts.
Effectivity
Identifies the planned date, lot, or serial number at which old part versions are replaced with new part versions in production. You can make changes to planned effectivity settings from a change notice or a change task.
Stop Effectivity Propagation represents whether effectivity propagation is applicable for the part.
End Item
Identifies whether or not the part is an end item, meaning the top assembly in a product structure.
Find Number
An entry assigned to a part for the purpose of cross-referencing the part in a parts list or table on a drawing to the location of the part in the field of the drawing. Find numbers are for cross-referencing purposes within the drawing and associated lists only. Your administrator determines whether or not your system uses this attribute as well as the valid characters for the field.
Job Authorization Number
Identifies the project authorization number. Available only if Windchill Aerospace and Defense is installed.
Last Modified
Identifies the date and time the part was last updated.
Life Cycle
Identifies the state of the part in the life cycle process.
Life Cycle Template
The template that determines the life cycle process used for the part. See your administrator for more information.
Line Number
Identifies the line number of this part within a manufacturing bill of materials, or a BOM. Also known as position numbers, they are used with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
You can set and change this number on the Uses tab when you create or update a part.
Location
Identifies the folder where the part is stored in the database.
Manufacturer ID
Identifies the manufacturer for parts of the type “manufacturer part.” Available only if Windchill Supplier Management is installed.
Name
Identifies the name of the part.
This field is required when you create a new part. Enter up to 60 characters.
Number
Identifies the number of the part.
If numbers are generated automatically at your site, the word Generated appears in this field.
*
When a part is created from a workgroup manager, the number can come from the CAD data.
If numbers are not generated automatically, enter up to 40 characters. The part number must be unique.
Assigned Item Choices
Displays the choices assigned to parts. Item choices determine the parts to be displayed in a filtered product structure.
Organization ID
Identifies the globally unique organization identifier (for example a CAGE code) associated with the part. Depending on settings at your site, this field may not appear.
Organization Name
The name of the organization to which the part belongs.
Parent
Identifies the parent part of the selected part. This field is blank if the selected part is the root part of an assembly.
PDM Checkout Status
Available if Windchill PDMLinkand Windchill ProjectLink are installed. If the part is checked out to a project from a product or library, this field indicates where the part is located in the PDM system and who checked it out. This status information links to the part details page in Windchill PDMLink.
Phase
Captures the phase related to authorization to perform work. Available only if Windchill Aerospace and Defenseis installed.
Quantity
Identifies the quantity of the part used within the assembly.
Reference Designator
In Product Structure Explorer, displays either the reference designator range if the BOM view is expanded in the structure or the individual reference designator if the occurrence view is expanded.
Source
Identifies the source of the part.
This field is required when you create a new part and it can be updated. The following options are available:
Make --The new part is made internally.
Buy --The new part is purchased externally.
Buy - Single Source -- The new part is to be purchased externally from a single source.
State
Identifies the current life cycle state of the part.
Status
Identifies whether the part is checked in or checked out.
Stop Effectivity Propagation
Setting this attribute to Yes causes any effectivity assigned by part structure propagation to stop at this part. That is, no effectivity would be assigned to any version of this part or its children.
*
This attribute is displayed only when a related preference is enabled.
Team Template
Identifies the team template associated with the part. The template identifies who reviews and approves (promotes) the part.
Trace Code
Indicates whether a part is traceable. The following options are available:
Untraced: The system does not track individual manufactured instances of the given part.
Serial Number: The system tracks individual manufactured instances of the given part with a serial number.
Lot Number: The system tracks the individual manufactured instances of the given part by its lot number. It is assumed that all instances in the lot are basically identical since they are created in the same manufacturing run.
Lot/Serial Number: The system tracks the individual manufactured instances of the given part by its lot and serial numbers. It is assumed that all instances in the lot are basically identical since they are created in the same manufacturing run. However, unlike lot number tracking, the enterprise assigns an individual serial number to the part as well.
Two Way
For alternate parts, identifies that the replacement relationship goes both ways, meaning the parts can serve as alternates for each other.
Type
Identifies the type of the part and is required when you create a new part. The options available depend on the setup at your site. For example, your site may create types that enable unique selections or attributes. Or if your site had Windchill Supplier Management installed, you would have the Manufacturer Part and Vendor Part options available to you.
Unit
Identifies the unit of measurement of the quantity on the part master. (This property is also sometimes displayed as Default Units.)
This field is required when you create a part and can be updated on the Uses panel. Select one of the following from the drop-down menu:
each
as needed
kilograms
meters
liters
Vendor ID
Identifies the vendor ID for parts of the type “vendor parts.” Available only if Windchill Supplier Management is installed.
Version
Identifies the revision and iteration of the part to be updated (for example, A.1).
View
Identifies the view (such as design or manufacturing) associated with the part.
When you create a new part, you can select a view from the drop-down list or specify that no view can be assigned initially (leave the selection blank).
*
Once a part is assigned to a view, the specified view may not be changed. You must delete and recreated the part.
Visual Location
This optional attribute can display on the Uses tab when the Occurrences table view is displayed and the part units are each. This attribute determines the point and angle of the part in the assembly. For more information, see Editing Visual Location.
