Classifying Parts
When Windchill PartsLink is installed with Windchill PDMLink, you can classify a new or existing part using Product Structure Explorer.
By selecting a classification node for a part, you assign attributes and values to the part. You may edit the values during the classifying process or from the Information > Classification tab.
Use the following procedure to classify a new part:
1. In Product Structure Explorer, select File > New > Part.
2. In the New window, complete the attribute information for the part, and then click Next.
*
See Creating Parts for more detail on attribute information.
3. Click Classify.
4. In the Select Classification Node window, select a classification node.
*
Different nodes assign different attributes and values. All the attributes for that classification node template appear. You can edit these attributes as well as leave attribute values blank. You can view the constraints for the attributes.
5. If an attribute in the template is of reference type, click Browse to open a window to select an appropriate value for the attribute. Select a value and then click OK.
*
You can select a quantity of measure for the attribute if required.
6. In the Select Classification Node window, click OK.
The appropriate classification attributes are applied to the part and display on the Information > Classification tab.
