Redline Process
This topic explains how to manage, modify, merge, and synchronize the redline. It also explains the non-supporting actions for the redline.
Managing Redline
You can manage redlines by using the Create, Open, Delete, or View actions from the following points:
• Affected Objects table of a change task
• Change Summary table of a change notice
• Associated Changes table
• Audit Change Summary of an audit change notice (only View)
To view the redline on these tables:
1. Add the Redline column to the Affected Objects table of a change task, Change Summary table of a change notice, and Associated Changes table. For more information on how to add the redline column, see Creating and Editing New Table Views.

The affected Part should be one of these: the latest released version or never released version without any previous revisions. You can create the redlines only for the Parts that have the root view.

2. From the Affected Objects table, click Create in the Redline column to create a new redline. This action creates a new redline for the affected object version and opens the redline structure browser page. You can see the part information and title of the redline. It also shows the status of the redline with icons such as 
Checked Out or

The following actions are available for the right-click menu on the Affected Objects, Change Summary, and Associated Changes tables:
Actions | Description |

Create | Create a new redline for an affected object version. This action opens redline structure browser. |
Open | Open an existing redline in the redline structure browser page. |
Delete | Delete a redline for an affected version. |
View | View a redline for an affected object version as Read-only. You cannot modify the redline with this action. |
Any blank cell in the Redline column indicates the affected object that does not support a redline.
When you delete the change notice, change task, or affected object, the associated redline is also deleted.
Modifying Redline
You can modify the redline from the redline structure browser page. When you open a redline, it opens in the redline structure browser page.
To modify the redline follow these steps:
1. On the redline structure browser page, you can make the following types of changes:
◦ Change the quantity change for the part
◦ Change the reference designator on a part
◦ Add or delete one or more child parts
◦ Remove or replace one or more child parts
◦ Add, remove, or modify the substitutes of one or more child parts.

2. Check in the changes. This creates the next iteration of the redline.
3. Compare the changes of the redline with the affected object version.
You can view the updated changes for the redline parts from the following locations:
• The structure tree and the Uses tab: visual indicators.
• The Uses tab: change indicators in the Change Indicator column.
• The Replacements tab: change indicators in the Change Indicator column and visual indicators. For more information, see Replacements Tab.
Merging Redline with the Affected Object Version
When the implementation work starts, you can merge the redline to the affected object version. As part of the revise action, the latest iteration of the redline merges with the latest revision and the latest iteration of the affected object, and creates a resulting object within the change context. If the open BOM redline is associated with the non-latest iteration, it is not merged into the next revision.
All the planned modifications in the BOM redline are merged into the next revision when it is created in the context of the Change Task. This includes:
• All part attribute modifications
• All part usage and part occurrence modifications
• All substitute modifications.
To merge the redline to the affected object version, follow these steps:
1. When the planned work is complete for the redline, check in the changes.
2. To start the implementation work, revise the affected object from the Affected Objects table to create the resulting object.
The redline merges with the affected object version and creates the resulting object.

Synchronizing the Changes to Other Open Change Notices
The synchronization is triggered when:
• Any subsequent changes are made to the latest released revision that has open BOM redlines.
• A change notice or change task is released.
When you modify the affected object version and check in the changes, a synchronization occurs immediately and all the open redlines are updated with the latest iterated affected object version.
When the resulting object is released, the change notice enters the Resolved state and triggers a synchronization. Any subsequent changes to the latest released revision that has open BOM redline also causes the synchronization.
The redlines of the other open change notices are synchronized with the latest released resulting object. The synchronization takes place at the part, usage, occurrences, attributes, and substitute level of the redline of the open change notices. Substitutes are carried forward based on the usage link determined during the synchronization process. The changes that occur in the redline or resulting object are either of conflicting or non-conflicting types. The Change Indicator column on the Uses tab indicates the type of changes performed in the redline. For more information on change indicators for various actions, see the Change Indicators for Usage Link section in Uses Tab.

When the audit is complete, the state of the change notice changes to the Resolved state. This triggers a synchronization. When the synchronization is complete, the redline and the affected object update to the next released revision.
After the synchronization, the changes from the latest released resulting objects are retained if there are no conflicting changes between the latest released resulting object version and the redline.
If there are conflicting changes between the latest released resulting object version and the redline, depending on the point at which synchronization takes place, the changes from the redline or the latest released resulting object are retained and the redline is marked as Suspect. To resolve the suspect, you can compare the conflicting changes between the latest released resulting object and the redline. If several redlines exist in the open change notice and one redline is checked out, then it does not synchronize with the latest released resulting object. The redline is synchronized after the changes are checked in or after an undo checkout. After the synchronization, a new iteration of the redline is created.
