Tutorial 2: Generating Multiple Similar mBOMs
You can initiate the Generate from Existing BOMs action by selecting one or more similar eBOMs in the upstream view and the template mBOM in the downstream view. In this tutorial, multiple similar eBOMs are selected before initiating the Generate from Existing BOMs action.
Consider that the following structure is present in the BOM Transformer:
The parts 0000000162, Similar, (Design) and 0000000162, Similar, (Manufacturing) are considered as similar nodes.
The structure under the part 0000000163, Root,(Design) is considered as the template eBOM, and the structure under the part 0000000163, Root, (Manufacturing) is considered as the template mBOM.
Perform the following steps:
1. Open the information page of part 0000000163, Root, (Design).
2. Create a copy of the structure present under 0000000163, Root, (Design) using the Save As action.
3. The newly created structure using the Save As action appears as follows:
4. In the BOM Transformer, use the Insert Existing action to insert the newly created structure under the similar node 00000000162, Similar, (Design).
The updated structure appears as follows:
5. Add a new part under the part 000000166, asm2, (Design).
The updated upstream structure appears as follows:
The newly added part is 000000170, child_3, (Design).
6. Create another copy of the structure present under 000000163, Root, (Design) using the Save As action. Open the information page of part 000000163, Root(Design). The newly created structure appears as follows:
7. In the BOM Transformer, use the Insert Existing action to insert the newly created structure 0000000173, Root_B, (Design) under the similar node 00000000162, Similar, (Design).
8. Remove the part 0000000167, child2, (Design) present under 0000000171, asm2_B, (Design).
9. The updated structure appears as follows:
10. Select the root nodes of similar eBOM structures in the upstream view: 0000000169, Root_A, (Design) and 0000000173, Root_B, (Design).
Also, select the root nodes of the template mBOM structure in the downstream view. That is, 0000000163, Root (Manufacturing).
11. In the middle pane toolbar, select Generate BOMs > Generate from Existing BOMs.
The Generate from Existing BOMs dialog box opens.
12. In the View Upstream Parameters section, the system displays the selected similar eBOM root nodes.
The following columns appear in the View Upstream Parameters section:
Upstream BOMs — Displays the selected similar eBOM root nodes.
Template Downstream BOM — Displays the selected template mBOM root node.
Upstream Navigation Criteria — Displays the upstream navigation criteria.
Existing MBOMs — Displays the already generated similar mBOMs.
13. The following columns appear in the Set Downstream Parameters section:
Upstream BOMs — Displays the selected similar eBOM root nodes.
Template Downstream BOM — Displays the selected template mBOM root node.
Downstream Navigation Criteria — Displays the downstream navigation criteria.
Existing MBOMs — Displays the already generated similar mBOMs.
Location — Displays the location. You can select the location where you want to save the generated similar mBOMs.
You can also use the Set Location action to set a location. The Set Location window opens when you click Set Location. Select the Context and Folder, and then click OK. You can view the contents of the selected folder by clicking Open. For more information, see About Set Location Action in MPMLink.
*
You must have the appropriate permissions to access the specified folders.
If you select the rows for which the location is already set, and initiate the Set Location action, the system displays the following user message:
You can set the location only for editable rows. Select only editable rows, and then click Set Location.
14. Click Finish. The generated similar mBOM structure with the root node 0000000169, Root_A, (Manufacturing) and 0000000173, Root_B, (Manufacturing) are added under the similar node 0000000162, Similar, (Manufacturing).
15. In the expanded form, the structure appears as follows:
*
For more information about the implementation of the Generate from Existing BOMs action, see the Logic section in Generating Using Existing BOMs.
A link created because of the Save As action exists between the part 000000000164, asm1, (Design) in the template eBOM and the part 000000000172, asm1_B, (Design) in the similar eBOM 2. Therefore, the system transforms the part. The part 000000000164, asm1, (Design) was transformed as a new branch in the template mBOM. Because of this, the part 000000000172, asm1_B, (Design) is also transformed as a new branch in the similar mBOM. The transformed part is 000000000172, asm1_B, (Manufacturing).
Similarly, other parts are transformed also.
A save as link does not exist for the part 00000000170, child_3, (Design) in similar eBOM 1. This part is newly added; therefore, it does not have a save as link, component ID or the same master. Because of this, the part is not transformed in the similar mBOM 1 structure.
