Setting Up Overnight Stay Policies
Overnight stay policies must be configured and associated with the territory or technician for Schedule Optimization to schedule overnight stays.
To create a overnight stay policy:
1. Navigate to ServiceMax Setup > Scheduling & Optimization > Overnight Policy Setup.
The Overnight Stay Policies page is displayed. Existing overnight stay policies are displayed on this page.
2. Click New.
3. Provide the following information on the New Overnight Stay Policy page.

Name
Enter a name for the overnight stay policy you are creating.
Active
Select this check box to set the overnight stay policy in active state. If you do not check this box, the overnight stay policy you are creating will not be available for associating with territories and technicians.
Allow Sunday Overnight Stay
Check the box to allow overnight stay on Sundays.
Allow Monday Overnight Stay
Check the box to allow overnight stay on Mondays.
Allow Tuesday Overnight Stay
Check the box to allow overnight stay on Tuesdays.
Allow Wednesday Overnight Stay
Check the box to allow overnight stay on Wednesdays.
Allow Thursday Overnight Stay
Check the box to allow overnight stay on Thursdays.
Allow Friday Overnight Stay
Check the box to allow overnight stay on Fridays.
Allow Saturday Overnight Stay
Check the box to allow overnight stay on Saturdays.
Total Overnight Stays
Enter the number of overnight stays a technician can take up in a week.
Max Consecutive Overnight Stays
Enter the number of consecutive overnight stays a technician can take up in a week.
Drive Time Threshold (in minutes)
Enter the drive time (to the technician’s home location) threshold upon meeting which the optimizer must trigger overnight stay.
Drive Distance Threshold (miles or kms)
Enter the distance (to the technician’s home location) threshold upon meeting which the optimizer must trigger overnight stay.

Specify only one of these thresholds. Enter 0 in the threshold you are not specifying. The first threshold to be crossed triggers the overnight stay if you define both thresholds.
Policy Override
Check the box if you want the optimizer to prioritize the overnight stay policy over cost/efficiency. If you leave this box unchecked, cost/efficiency will be given priority over the overnight stay policy.
Min Gap Between Consecutive ONS
Enter the gap (in number of days) between consecutive overnight stays
4. Click Save.
After creating the overnight stay policy, associate it with territories or technicians.
You can associate a territory or a technician with only one overnight stay policy.
If a technician is not associated with an overnight stay policy, the policy associated with the territory they belong to is considered for them.
If a technician is associated with an overnight stay policy, the association is given priority over the overnight policy associated with the territory they belong to.
