Terminologies with Inventory Management
The terminologies used for Inventory Management are:
Van Stock: These locations are typically Technician's Van, where they carry parts and are responsible for their stock.
Warehouse: A warehouse is a commercial building for the storage of parts.
Forward Stocking Location (FSL): FSL is a strategically placed inventory location created by Companies that are closer to their customer which enables them to meet SLA, reduce high shipping costs, faster delivery by reducing in-transit time. These locations are typically leveraged for shipping parts before technicians are assigned, so that, parts are available in time for technicians to consume while on a Work Order. Typically a Stock Transfer step is required to move parts from FSL to Van Stock.
Serialized Parts: Parts that have a serial number are called Serialized parts. Each serialized part is considered as one quantity in the Inventory. Example: Fridge, TV, Washing Machine, and so on.
Non-Serialized Parts: Parts that do not have a serial number are called Non-Serialized parts. A collection of non-serialized parts is considered as one quantity in the Inventory. Example: Box of nuts, bolts, nails, and so on.
