ServiceMax Configuration to Download Other Records
Depending on the team/product/region (state, city, zip, country) serviced by a technician, business data relevant for the technician is likely to be a sub-set of the master data available in online. You would need to configure such that only this sub-set is downloaded to the mobile device. You can use Download Criteria and Advanced Download Criteria in Mobile Configuration screen to identify this sub-set of accessible records which should be downloaded to the technician's mobile device.
For instance, you can define Download Criteria such that all Work Order records with an Order Status of Open and associated with specific products, are made available to the technician. This enables a technician to have access locally to all the yet-to-be-scheduled work orders related to specific products in which technician has expertise, in addition to work orders scheduled to that technician.
Another example would be, for all the scheduled work orders, technician might need access to information about the related account, contact, component (Installed Product), location, and any image/content files attached for reference. Technician might also need access to information about the list of other Installed Product records available at the already scheduled work order location. This is to enable the servicing of any other installed product as found necessary during field visit, in the scope of the same work order. You can configure these using Advanced Download Criteria.
The above configurations restrict the record sets downloaded to the mobile device, to include only the records meaningful for the specific technician. This helps the technician to quickly locate the record he wants locally. It also helps keep the size of offline data on the mobile device at a minimum.
Each object can have its own download/advanced download criteria. The collection of records matching such criteria defined for a group of technicians (ServiceMax group profile) is referred to as Data Cube. Data Cube logically represents the number of records for each configured object that will be downloaded to the mobile device on initial synchronization for a technician. The smaller the data cube size, the better the mobile app performance.
Other records that you can configure for download in the Other Settings tab of Mobile Configuration screen include number of recent Chatter threads and maximum size of individual Knowledge Base articles.
