Actions Performed on the Data
The various actions that a technician can perform on records using the mobile app are similar to what he can do in the ServiceMax online app. However, you might want to re-design / configure some of them to better suit the form-factor of the mobile device.
Actions that can be performed by a technician in mobile app are listed below. You have to configure these as SFM transactions of different types as mentioned:
Create new records from existing records with option to add/modify/delete child records: SFM transactions of types from Source Object to create new header and child records and from Source Object to create new child records only
Edit existing records, with option to add/modify/delete child records: SFM transactions of type as Standalone for the purpose of editing an existing record
Generate formatted reports of records, with option to capture of optional and/or mandatory signatures: SFM transactions of type to generate an Output Document for a header record with/without its child records
You can then configure these actions for launching by configuring SFM wizards, and associating the wizard steps with the SFM transactions. These wizards and related wizard steps are listed as action buttons / menu items when technician views a record in mobile app.
Technicians also create new records from scratch, with some fields set to default values based on business requirements. You have to configure SFM transactions of type as Standalone for the purpose of creating a new record for this. Similar to SFM transactions to view records, you have to assign them to groups of technicians, by associating the transactions with the required ServiceMax Group profiles in SFM Mobile Permissions screen. Technician can launch these actions from the New Item / Create New screens of the mobile apps.
Note that the add/modify/delete operations configured as actions as described above will be successful only the Salesforce profile and permission sets of the technician allow this.
Apart from data manipulation, technician can also search for required records, and then drill down to the required record to take further action. You can enable this through SFM Search configuration. In this configuration screen, you must assign the required SFM searches to group of technicians. Unassigned searches are available to all technicians.
Technicians can also access and perform actions on records through third-party applications, when API feature is enabled in the Other Settings tab of Mobile Configuration screen.
