Getting Started with PTC Orbit
PTC Orbit aggregates asset, product, and parts data from ServiceMax Core, Windchill, and other sources into a single platform.
PTC Orbit is a cloud-based application that aggregates asset, product, and parts data from ServiceMax Core, Windchill, and other source systems into a single platform. Administrators, service managers, and field teams access a unified asset profile built from multiple data sources, with tools for data governance, analytics, and service optimization.
What You Can Do
• Manage your installed base: View, filter, and organize assets across accounts, locations, and product hierarchies using list, group, location, and map views. For more information, see
Manage Assets.
• Run AI-driven analytics: Ask questions in natural language through
AI Hub and generate charts, summaries, and data tables from asset and service data. For more information, see
AI Hub.
• Forecast service demand: Create demand forecasts that project future work order volumes by account, location, or product. Preventive maintenance data from the Canonical Data Model feeds into these projections. For more information, see
Demand Forecasting.
• Analyze maintenance performance: The Maintenance Performance Dashboard aggregates completion rates, on-time percentages, and service counts across assets covered by preventive maintenance plans. For more information, see
Maintenance Performance Dashboard.
• Score asset health: Configure scoring models that calculate health, risk, opportunity, and maintenance effectiveness metrics for every asset in your installed base. For more information, see
Maintenance Effectiveness Score.
• Execute campaigns: Create service and revenue campaigns to coordinate bulk work order generation across targeted asset populations. For more information, see
Campaigns.
Data Sources
PTC Orbit ingests data from multiple sources through Matillion ELT pipelines that load into Snowflake. Supported sources include ServiceMax Core, Windchill, Salesforce, and AWS S3 file imports.
For details on the data integration architecture, see
Data Sources. For the end-to-end sync process, see
Data Sync Process Flow.
User Management
Administrators manage users, roles, groups, and permissions to control access to asset data and platform features. PTC Orbit connects to Salesforce for authentication through the OAuth Client Credentials Flow.
For role and permission configuration, see
Roles and Groups Configuration. For authentication setup, see
Configuring Salesforce Authentication.
