Maintenance Effectiveness Score
The Maintenance Effectiveness Score evaluates how well each asset is being maintained by combining completed and on-time preventive maintenance data into a single 1–100 value on the Asset record.
The out-of-the-box Maintenance Effectiveness Score in PTC Orbit answers a specific question for each asset in your install base: given its maintenance service history, how effectively has it been maintained? Reliability Engineers, Service Providers, and Maintenance Planners can read the score directly on the asset record. The score also feeds the Maintenance Performance Dashboard as the basis for the Overall Maintenance Score KPI card and the asset risk tiers shown on the geographic heatmap.
Every asset that has a maintenance service history in PTC Orbit receives a Maintenance Effectiveness Score. The score is read-only, out-of-the-box, and requires no configuration. It draws from two calculated fields on the Asset object: Completed Maintenance Percentage and On-Time Maintenance Percentage. Higher values reflect better maintenance execution; lower values indicate missed or chronically late maintenance.
The score always reflects the asset's full service history. No time-window filter applies; the calculation uses every PM work order on record for that asset, from its earliest history to the present.
How It Works
The score applies a weighted formula to two input percentages calculated on the Asset object.
Formula:
Maintenance Effectiveness Score = (0.7 × Completed Maintenance %) + (0.3 × On-Time Maintenance %)
The score range is 1 to 100. A score of 100 means all scheduled preventive maintenance was completed on time across the asset's entire history. A score near 1 indicates a pattern of missed or significantly late maintenance.
Completed Maintenance Percentage is weighted at 70 percent of the total score. Completion carries greater weight because maintenance that actually runs; even when late; reduces the risk of unexpected failure more than maintenance that is skipped entirely.
On-Time Maintenance Percentage is weighted at 30 percent of the total score. A consistently low on-time percentage signals schedule slippage that, left unaddressed, leads to missed maintenance over time.
Considerations
Before interpreting or referencing the Maintenance Effectiveness Score, review the following constraints.
The score is read-only. You cannot modify, clone, or delete it through the PTC Orbit UI.
The calculation covers the asset's entire service history. You cannot apply a time-window filter to restrict the score to a specific period.
No setup is required. The score is an out-of-the-box feature and is active for all applicable assets without administrator configuration.
The score is available as an input to the Maintenance Performance Dashboard. The dashboard aggregates individual asset scores into an install-base-wide metric called the Overall Maintenance Score.
