Cloning a model (Model Explorer)
You can clone any version of a model through Model Explorer and Modeler.
Notes
The new model is named Clone of <name of original model>.
You can clone a model only if you have Write access permissions to the database, and Read access permissions to the model being cloned.
While a model is being cloned, other users will not be able to change that model.
If the model you are cloning is linked to a CM Tool, those links will be lost in the clone.
To clone a version of a model (through Model Explorer):
1. Start Model Explorer. See Starting Model Explorer (Model Explorer).
2. Locate the Model you want to clone:
a. Expand the SQL icon.
b. Expand the Server that owns the Model you want to clone.
If the Server that owns the Model is not shown, add the Server to Model Explorer.
c. Expand the Database that owns the Model you want to clone.
If the Database that owns the Model is not shown, show the server's databases and then optionally bookmark the Database.
For more information refer to Showing a Servers Databases.
d. If the Model you want to clone is not a tip version, on the Model Explorer toolbar click the Show Versionbutton so that the button is depressed. You can then expand the appropriate model to find the model version you want to clone.
3. Right-click the model you want to clone, point to Clone, and then click either:
Clone to the Same Database > Default Access Permissions - the access permissions of the new Model are set to that of the owning Database, assuming some have been set for the Database. If no access permissions have been set up for the Database, the user that creates the Model is granted Owner access permissions to the model and all the Packages, and the Public Write checkbox is selected for the model.
Clone to the Same Database > Retain Access Permissions - retains the access permissions of the model being cloned
Clone to another Database > Default Access Permissions - opens the Select Database dialog for you to select the target database for the cloned model. The access permissions of the new Model are set to that of the owning Database, assuming some have been set for the Database. If no access permissions have been set up for the Database, the user that creates the Model is granted Owner access permissions to the model and all Packages, and the Public Write check box is selected for the model.
Clone to another Database > Retain Access Permissions - opens the Select Database dialog for you to select the target database for the cloned model. Then cloned model retains the access permissions of the model being cloned.
