Setting up Windchill for use with Windchill Exporter (Integration for PTC Windchill)
Before you can use Windchill Exporter to import items to Windchill, you must set up attribute named Role_Name for the Part Usage type.
In addition, for Options and Variants, you must set the Configurable Module Support option to Yes.
We recommend that you define a table view named Systems Engineering that has columns for Identity, Role_Name, Assigned Usage Expressions and Assigned Item Expressions.
To set up the Role_Name attribute in Windchill:
1. Log in to Windchill PDMLink as a user that has Site Administration rights.
2. In the Navigation bar on the left, click Browse.
3. Click Site > Utilities > Type and Attribute Management.
4. Click Manage Reusable Attributes.
5. Right-click the Root attribute organizer, and then click New Attribute Organizer.
6. In the Internal Name and Display Name boxes, type System_Engineering, and then click OK.
7. In the tree, right-click the new Attribute Organizer, and then click New Reusable Attribute.
8. In the Internal Name, Display Name and Logical Identifier boxes, type Role_Name.
9. Set the Data Type to String, and click OK.
10. Click Done and confirm that the new attribute has been created.
11. Click Manage Types.
12. Scroll down and click the Part Usage type.
13. From the Actions menu, click Edit.
14. Click Create a New Attribute, and type Role_Name for the Name.
15. Choose Global, and then click Next.
16. Locate the previously created attribute in the list, select the option button that is associated with that attribute, and then click Next.
17. Click Finish, and then click Save.
18. Click Done and confirm that the attribute has been added to the Part Usage type.
To set the configurable module support preference to yes:
1. From Windchill, open the product or library to which the Modeler system or sub-system will be imported.
2. Open the Preference Management options.
3. Expand the Options and Variants entry.
4. Set the Configurable Module Support option to Yes.
To define a systems engineering table view in Windchill:
1. Log in to Windchill as a user that has Site Administration rights.
*
Individual users can define these views for themselves, but it is better if the Administrator creates the views and shares them to all users.
2. Navigate to a Part Information page, and then click the Structure tab.
3. From the Views menu, click Manage Structure Views.
4. For the Default view, click Save As.
5. In the Name box, type Systems Engineering View.
6. Ensure that the Show in Current View List and Share with all Users check boxes are selected.
7. Click Next.
8. Ensure that only the following Columns are added to the Selected Columns list, and that their order is as follows:
Identity
Role_Name
Assigned Usage Expressions
Assigned Item Expressions
9. Click Finish.
10. Click Set Active View for the new View, and then click OK.
After creating the Systems Engineering View in Windchill, it is available to all users.
