Creating a stereotype to extend linking capabilities
This topic documents creating a Stereotype through the Packages pane. For information about using a Profile Diagram to create a Stereotype, specify valid model item types and define Tag Definitions, see Overview of profile diagrams.
To create a stereotype to extend linking capabilities:
1. If you have not created a profile Package, create a profile Package. For more information, see Creating a profile Package.
2. Right-click the profile Package in which you want to create the Stereotype, point to New, point to UML, point to Profiles, and then click Stereotype.
3. Name the Stereotype as required.
We recommend that you prefix the name with a prefix that is common to all Stereotypes used in the Profile.
If you want the display name of the Stereotype in Modeler to be different from its real name, on the General tab of the Stereotype's property pages, type the required display name in the Name Alias box.
4. Select valid model items types for the Stereotype (the Stereotype can be applied only to items whose type is valid and those items will be valid source items for the link you are creating):
a. Open the Stereotype's Property Pages, and then click the Items tab.
b. In the drop-down list box select Model Item Types, and then click the Link button.
c. In the middle or right pane, select the check boxes associated with valid model item types (the Stereotype can be applied only to items whose type is valid).
For more information about the model item types listed, see Model item types that can be stereotyped.
d. In the middle or right pane, clear the check boxes associated with invalid model item types.
e. Click OK.
f. If you want the Stereotype to be automatically applied to items whose type is valid, click the Options tab, and then select the Apply to All Objects of Associated Model Item Types check box.
5. Link the Stereotype to the required Tag Definitions:
a. Open the Stereotype's Property Pages, and then click the Items tab
b. In the drop-down list box select Tag Definitions, and then click the Link button.
c. In the middle or right pane, select the check boxes associated with the Tag Definitions you want to use.
d. In the middle or right pane, clear the check boxes associated with the Tag Definitions you do not want to use.
e. Click OK.
Alternatively, you can link a Stereotype to a Tag Definition by dragging the Tag Definition to the Stereotype.
6. List the Tag Definitions in the required order through these buttons When the Stereotype is applied to an item, the Tag Definitions will appear on the item's Property Pages in the order you set.
*
A Tag Definition can be used by many Stereotypes, but it can have only one value for a model item. If a Tag Definition is applied to a model item through more than one Stereotype, it will have the same value in each case.
You can view the relationships between Stereotypes and Tag Definitions in the following ways:
The Items tab of a Stereotype's Property Pages lists its linked Tag Definitions.
The Items tab of a Tag Definition's Property Pages lists its linked Stereotypes.
The Miscellaneous folder in the Relationships pane shows the Stereotype and Tag Definition structure.
