Getting started with Publisher (Publisher)
Publisher generates output from information held in models. Thereafter, Publisher can regenerate that output using the latest information from those models.
Publisher can generate Microsoft Word documents and Publisher HTML:
For the Word output format, Publisher generates a structured document using the Word 2003 (.doc) format.
For the Publisher HTML output format, Publisher generates HTML files that allow the extracted data to be viewed in an internet browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer.
There are four high-level scenarios for using Publisher that are covered in this Help:
Generating documents and Publisher HTML
This section of the Help is for users that need to use Publisher to generate documents or Publisher HTML using provided Document Definitions or Document Templates. To know more about generating documents and publisher HTML, refer to Overview of generating documents from provided document templates.
Developing Document Definitions
Document Definitions define which items, diagrams and properties are extracted from the model and how that information is presented in the generated document or Publisher HTML.
This section of the Help is for users that need to develop Document Definitions for themselves or others. For more information, refer to Overview of developing document definitions.
Distributing Document Definitions through Document Templates
Document Templates are an optional way of distributing Document Definitions.
This section of the Help is for users that have developed Document Definitions and want to distribute them to other users using Document Templates. To know more, refer to Overview of document templates.
Creating and customizing Publisher Styles
This section of the Help is for users that want to create new Publisher Styles that are customized for their purposes. To know more, refer to Overview of customizing the presentation of generated documents.
