To Generate Callouts from a BOM XML
Before you can generate callouts from a BOM XML file, you must create a structurally valid BOM XML file that has elements which correspond to the following:
• Objects in your illustration that callouts will be generated for.
• The callouts that will be generated.
After you create a valid BOM XML file, you can select it, set link options, and then generate callouts from it. Follow the instructions below to generate callouts from a BOM XML file.
1. Open an illustration that contains objects you want to generate callouts for. Verify that these prerequisites are met:
◦ All the items in the illustration that you will generate callouts for have object information assigned (an object ID at minimum) and no existing connected callouts. To disconnect existing connected callouts without deleting them, cut the connected callouts or objects, and then paste them back in the illustration. (See “Editing Objects with Connected Callouts” in the PTC Arbortext IsoDraw User's Reference.)
2. In the Window menu, click Show object window.
3. In the Objects dialog box, click the arrow button to open the menu and then click Generate callouts for objects.
4. In the Create callouts dialog box under Object or group selection in the Create callouts list, click for BOM.
5. Click the File button to the right of the Create callouts list.
6. In the Select a BOM file dialog box, browse to select a BOM XML file, and click Open.
7. (Optional) In the Create callouts dialog box under Object or group selection, select callout and file link options:
◦ Link callouts to objects—Creates a logical connection between each callout in the BOM XML file and one or more items (graphic objects) in the illustration file.(See “Callouts Connected to Objects” in the PTC Arbortext IsoDraw User's Reference.)
◦ Link BOM to illustration—Creates a live link between the BOM XML file and the illustration file. If you select this option, these actions occur when you generate callouts:
▪ The path name for the linked BOM XML file appears in the Placed files list in the attribute window.
▪ The illustration file automatically updates to match any changes saved to the linked BOM XML file.
8. (Optional) In the Create callouts dialog box, perform these actions:
a. Under Callouts, change callout gap settings.
b. Under Objects on illustration, change the hotspot and object info settings. (See “Generate Callouts for Objects” in the PTC Arbortext IsoDraw User's Reference.)
9. Click OK to generate callouts from the selected BOM XML file. The Create callouts dialog box closes.
