About Publishing
Publish an illustration to distribute Creo Illustrate files for viewing in other applications, such as Creo View. A published C3DI file is saved as a PVZ (*.pvz) file. You can open the published PVZ file locally or from Windchill.
An illustration can contain 2D, 3D and Schematic figures. When you publish an illustration, you export one or more of the figures in one or more of these formats:
3D Creo View model
Schematic Creo View format
2D illustration
Image
See the sections below for information on setting up publishing options and on publishing figures.
Setting up Publishing Options
Each file type and format you define is called a publishing option. For example, you or your administrator may define a list of publishing options such as the following:
2D Illustration in CGM format
2D Illustration in IDR (IsoDraw) format
Image in PNG format
You can publish illustrations in the source language, or all target languages.
The publish order for figures is listed in the Gallery View. To change the publishing sequence, simply drag and drop the thumbnails into the correct order. For more information see, To Change the Publish Order for Figures.
You can define the configuration of each option, such as using Hidden Line Removal for 2D Illustrations or excluding unreferenced parts for a 3D model. For figures with hotspots, you can create an image map file for each figure with the coordinate locations of the hotspots. The map files are created in the PVZ file. You can mark any figure as Do Not Publish to exclude it from publication.
You cannot add a user defined publish option that has the same name as an existing option. If a new shared option is added (or an existing one renamed) this can coexist with user defined options with the same name. For example, a shared preference and a user-defined preference with the same name can coexist.
Define the publishing settings in either of these locations:
Publish Settings dialog box—Sets the publish options for the current illustration only.
Creo Illustrate Options dialog box—Defines the default publish options for new illustrations.
You can designate one or more of the options as enabled. After the list of possible publishing options is set up, you can publish figures. For publishing to 3D, you can use a file referred to as recipe to fine tune the published PVZ file. Two recipes are included with Creo Illustrate at this default location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\PTC\Creo <version>\View Files Tools\recipe
Set the recipes using the Creo Illustrate Options dialog box. For more information about using and creating recipes, see 3D Publishing Options in the Creo Illustrate Installation and Configuration Guide.
Publishing Figures
When you publish an illustration, you select from the list, one or more publishing options for each figure.
A published file opens automatically in Creo Illustrate when you use Publish and View. You can use the Cancel button on the Status Bar to cancel a publishing operation.
