About Design Exploration
A session in Design Exploration Extension is an ad hoc, trial-and-error environment. With it, you can explore changes to a design without committing to the change. A Design Exploration session is for the entire Creo Parametric session and not per specific model. To apply changes to the original Creo Parametric model, you must accept the changes to the active checkpoint and exit the Design Exploration session.
When you work in a Design Exploration session you can download, open, and checkout objects from Windchill.
In a Design Exploration session you can perform a number of tasks:
• Capture design modifications only, without changes to settings, appearances, and so on.
• Make changes to the design without committing them.
• Return to previous points in the design.
• Work in the native design environment during a session, not necessarily only one specific model.
• Branch to different directions of the design.
In a Design Exploration session, you create a set of checkpoints that represent states in the design process. Each checkpoint captures all design modifications made since the previous checkpoint. A checkpoint contains all data required to restore the models to the corresponding checkpoint. When you switch to a selected checkpoint, all models are replaced in session by the version of the model stored up to the selected checkpoint. Checkpoints are explicitly created and are created automatically by the system when specific events initiate checkpoint creation.
When you complete the Design Exploration session, you can do one of the following:
• Accept all changes form the active checkpoint and quit the session.
• Reject changes and return to an empty session or to the original pre-modified models before starting the session.
• Save the Design Exploration session and return to it at a later date.
