About Creating Format-Specific Profiles for Data Exchange Tasks
Profile editors are available in Creo that enables you create import and export profiles for the import, file open with Creo Unite, and export tasks. Import and export profile editors exist for all the supported 3D file formats with format-specific settings and preferences that correspond with the 3D import and export configuration options and their system-defined default values. You can include or exclude model and entity settings and format-specific preferences in the profile editors and modify their default values to create import and export profiles for each file format. While some settings are mutually exclusive, the availability of a few other settings depends on the selection of the related options, the format of the model selected for import, or the file format selected for export. Settings that appear greyed out do not give you the preference to explicitly select or exclude them.
An import or export profile for a format, therefore, includes unique settings that correspond with the generic and format-specific configuration options in the config.pro file. You can save the import and export profiles to disk and use them to configure, control, and manage data exchange tasks without prior knowledge of the corresponding import and export configuration options.

* When file formats support both import and file open with Creo Unite, you can use the format-specific import profiles to import as well as open the models with Creo Unite. Formats such as Autodesk Inventor, CATIA V5, SolidWorks, NX, and Creo Elements/Direct support both import and file open with Creo Unite.
To create a format-specific import or export profile at the start of a Creo session, click File > Options, click Data Exchange, and select a 3D file format from the formats listed in the following sections of the Creo Parametric Options dialog box:
Import and Open Profiles
Export Profiles
You can then click Setup Import and Open Profiles or Setup Export Profiles to access the import or export profile editor that is specific to the format selected and create the format-specific import or export profile.
After you begin the import, assemble, append, or export task, you can access the import or export profile editor that is of the same format as the model selected for import or the format selected for export in the Import New Model, File, or Save a Copy dialog box. You can customize the profile editor settings to create the format-specific import or export profile.
