About Importing Native Creo Elements/Direct Part and Assembly Models
With Creo Granite capabilities you can import 3D part and assembly models from Creo Elements/Direct. You can import Creo Elements/Direct parts and assemblies as Translated Image Models (TIMs) with Associative Topology Bus (ATB) capabilities. ATB maintains geometric associativity between Creo Elements/Direct and Creo Parametric.
You can import the following 3D file formats from Creo Elements/Direct:
• *.bdl—Single or multiple parts and assemblies. Can optionally contain drawing files.
• *.pkg—Single or multiple components and assemblies. Contains all the data of a project.
• *.sdp—Part instance files.
• *.sda—Assembly instance files.
• *.sdac—Assembly content files.
• *.sdpc—Part content files.

 You can import native Creo Elements/Direct model geometry, but you cannot insert the geometry of Creo Elements/Direct models into existing parts or assemble Creo Elements/Direct sub-assemblies and components into existing assemblies. |
In addition to import, you can open Creo Elements/Direct*.sdpc and *.sdac part and assembly content files in Creo Parametric, just as you open CATIA, SolidWorks, and NX part and assembly models in Creo Parametric. The File Open dialog box provides the Open and Import options with Open as the default option for the *.sdpc and *.sdac content files. You can open a native Creo Parametric assembly and assemble the *.sdpc and *.sdac models as Creo Elements/Direct components, without converting them to Creo Parametric part and assembly models.
The Import New Model dialog box displays the following additional import options when you select Creo Elements/Direct files for import:
• Include Containers / Stock-Finish Relation—Includes containers and their content and the stock finish parts and their relations in the import.
• Include Face Parts—Includes face parts in the import. Shows default selection.
• Include Wire Parts—Includes wire parts in the import. Shows default selection.
• Include Empty Parts—Includes empty parts in the import. Shows default selection.
You can import multi-level assemblies with part components and work planes at each level. Set the
intf3d_in_lock_redisplay configuration option to
yes, especially before you import relatively large
Creo Elements/Direct Modeling assemblies, to prevent the redisplay of the models in their translation state during their import.
Creo Elements/Direct package files import as solid parts, assemblies, and components. When a
*.pkg file consists of a single part, the file imports as a part and not as an assembly. If parts do not solidify or edges remain open after the import, you can use Import DataDoctor (IDD) to solidify parts, close edges, and repair geometry.
After you import the Creo Elements/Direct files, you can use the ATB functionality of Check Status, Update, Change Link, and Make Independent on the TIMs. You can add features and meta data to the TIMs. You can update the TIMs when you modify the corresponding models in Creo Elements/Direct.
