To Project a Curve or an Edge
There are two ways you can select geometry to project: either by selecting entities or using the Chain dialog box.
Selecting Entities
Click Sketch > Project. The Selection Mini Toolbar (SMT) opens.
One-by-One Selection
To select one or more individual entities, also known as on-by-one selection:
1. Click an edge or a curve to begin selection.
2. To select additional entities, press and hold CTRL and select the entities.
3. To deselect an entity, press CTRL and click on the entity. To deselect all entities, right-click on the words One-by-One selection in the collector, and then click Remove.
4. To select a chain, click an edge or a curve to begin selection and then press SHIFT and select an adjacent surface or select additional references. To deselect the chain, right-click on the words Chain selection in the collector, and then click Remove.
5. To accept the selection and keep the tool open for additional selection, click .
6. To accept the selection, click .
7. To cancel, click .
Chain Selection
To select a curve or a loop, also known as chain selection:
1. Click an edge or a curve to begin selection. This edge becomes the anchor, or the first end of the chain.
2. To select the extent reference, or the other end of the chain, press SHIFT and right-click on the edge or curve. Then immediately left-click to keep the selection.
3. When there are two possible chains that can be created from the selected anchor and extant reference, you can switch between the two chains when you right-click and then click Flip.
4. To create a loop from a surface, select an edge or curve as the anchor, then press SHIFT and select the surface.
5. To deselect a chain or loop, hold down the right mouse button and select Clear. Alternatively, right-click in the Selection Mini Toolbar, and then click Remove.
6. To accept the selection and keep the tool open for additional selection, click .
7. To accept the selection, click .
8. To cancel, click .

To select a composite curve, right-click on the curve a few times until the curve highlights, then left-click to keep the selection.
Selection using the Chain Dialog
1. Click Sketch > Project. The Selection Mini Toolbar opens.
2. Click . The Chain dialog box opens.
One-by-One Selection
To select one or more individual entities, also known as on-by-one selection:
1. Make sure that Standard selection mode is selected.
2. Click an edge or a curve to begin selection.
3. To select additional entities, press CTRL and select the entities.
4. To deselect an entity, press CTRL and click on the entity. Alternatively, right-click on an entity in the collector, and then click Remove.
5. To accept the selection, click OK.
6. To cancel, click Cancel.
Chain Selection
To select a curve or a loop, also known as chain selection:
1. Set the selection mode to Rule-based.
2. Set the Rule to Tangent, Partial loop, or Complete loop, depending on the type of chain you want to select.
Tangent:
1. Select the edge of a surface. This entity becomes the Anchor of the chain. A chain is constructed from the selected edge and all tangent edges.
Partial loop:
1. Select an edge. This edge becomes the Anchor, or the first end of the chain.
2. Click on the Extent Reference box in the Chain collector.
3. Select the extant reference, or the other end of the chain.
4. If there are two possible chains that can be created from the selected anchor and extant reference, you can switch between the two chains by clicking the Flip button. Alternatively, you can right-click and then click Flip.
5. To clear the extent reference, hold down the right mouse button and select Clear. Alternatively, right-click on the extent reference in the Chain collector, and then click Remove.
Complete loop:
1. Select an edge. This edge becomes the Anchor, or the first end of the chain. A loop is constructed based on the anchor.
2. If the loop comes from a surface, you can change the selected loop by clicking in the Loop Reference box in the Chain collector and then selecting a new surface.
3. To accept the selection, click OK.
4. To cancel, click Cancel.

To see entity IDs in the Chain collector dialog, enable the Show entity ID number on help text option in the Sketcher area of the Creo Parametric Options dialog box. Alternatively, set the show_selected_item_id configuration option to yes. For more information, see the topic To Customize the Sketcher Environment.
Selection Restrictions
Note the following selection restrictions:
When performing a chain selection, the anchor and extent references must be edges lying within the same plane or curve entities that are part of the same curve feature.
A circle is broken into two arcs. You can select each segment separately, or use chain selection to select both and create a composite curve.
You cannot use Tangent rule-based selection for sketched entities.
You cannot select the silhouette edge of a spline.
