About Importing the Material Definition of CATIA V5 Parts
The non-geometric data of CATIA V5 part and assembly models imported to Creo includes the material definitions of CATParts that are standalone part models or are assembled as the part components of the CATIA V5 CATProduct assemblies.
When you import CATIA V5 parts or part components with multiple solid bodies to Creo, the material assigned at the part level is directly assigned to the solid bodies of the imported parts and components whether or not material is assigned to the bodies of the CATIA V5 parts. The material assigned to the CATIA V5 parts at the part level overrides the material assigned to the bodies of the CATIA V5 parts for the calculation of mass properties. To avoid incorrect mass property calculations, material is not assigned at both the part and the body levels of the imported part models.
The material assigned to the bodies of the imported parts correspond with the part-level material assigned to the CATIA V5 source parts before import. If the CATIA V5 source parts with multiple solid bodies are not assigned material at the part-level, the material assigned to the bodies of the imported parts are individually mapped to the material assigned to each body of the CATIA V5 source parts.
If material is added to a CATIA V5 source model at the part level, the Associative Topology Bus (ATB) update makes sure that the added material is assigned to all the bodies of the imported part, replacing the previously or currently assigned body-level material in the native CATPart.
If a part-level material is removed from the CATIA V5 part model, and there are new or existing body-level materials in the CATIA V5 part, after the ATB update, these body-level materials are assigned to the bodies of the imported part, in place of the removed part-level material.
If the part-level material is removed from the CATIA V5 part, and there is no body-level material assigned, the default CATIA V5 density is associated with the bodies of the imported part.
