Resolve name conflicts
Each model stored in the database must have a unique name. When you save models, Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager checks their names to ensure that they will be unique.
Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager finds two types of name conflicts:
Multiple parts or assemblies with the same name as others in the Creo Elements/Direct Modeling Structure Browser.
Parts or assemblies with the same name as others in the database.
Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager displays the Name Conflict dialog if conflicts are found. You must resolve name conflicts before saving the model.
To see which models have name conflicts (Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager):
1. Click Cancel in the Name Conflict dialog. The Save dialog box opens displayed showing models with conflicting names highlighted in red.
2. Press Ctrl-F to bring up the Find dialog.
3. Enter the name of a model in the Find dialog to find instances of that model in the Save dialog.
To see which models have name conflicts (Creo Elements/Direct Modeling):
1. Click Cancel in the Name Conflict dialog and the Save dialog.
2. In Modeling, use Search to find the model in the Structure Browser.
3. Use the Details view to see the models and their names.
To change the name of a model in Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager or Creo Elements/Direct Modeling:
You can edit the Model Name in Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager or Creo Elements/Direct Modeling. Use Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager if you are happy with the instance name and only want to change the Model Name. Use Creo Elements/Direct Modeling if you want to change the instance name and the Model Name. The Model Name change is recognized by the other product.
1. Click the Model Name field for a model.
2. Type a new name.
3. Press Enter to complete the edit. Items that no longer have that name conflict will turn black. New name conflicts will not be detected until you try to save again.
To have Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager resolve the name conflicts:
1. Type a renaming rule in the Name Conflict dialog. You may keep the default renaming rule or create another renaming rule. Click the Add Suffix button to insert strings that will be filled in by Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager. The current and new names are displayed so you can see the effect of the renaming rule.

Make your renamed models easy to search by adding your username to the rule: %Current Value%_username.
2. Click Next to rename this model and go to the next.
3. Click Apply to all to have Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager rename all models according to the renaming rule.
