How to.. > Change your preferences
Change your preferences
You can change your Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager preferences for display settings, save, and load options.
To change your preferences, click File > Options in Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager. The Preferences dialog box opens.
*
If a preference is not available, your administrator has set the value of the preference so you cannot change it.
To reset your preferences to the values configured for your site, click Reset in the Preferences dialog.
The Preferences dialog box is organized into screens:
Workspace tab:
The Workspace tab allows you to change several display options:
Maximum number of items in Recent List: The default is 50; you may find it convenient to increase the number displayed.
Periodically Refresh Status every: Set the frequency of Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager's automatic status checks. When a newer version of a model you are working on is detected, Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager pops up an alert message and adds an item to your Workspace Notifications pane.
The 15-minute default is a good value in most cases. Checking the status of a very large model or assembly can take several minutes. Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager is unresponsive during this time, though you can continue using Creo Elements/Direct Modeling. If several people are working on a set of relatively small models, a shorter time will let you know sooner when someone updates a model you have open. If you are working alone on a very large assembly or you have many models loaded, a longer time will minimize the load placed on your computer.
Default 3D load type: You can choose to load fully, load lightweight models, or load partially.
Full Geometry: Load all information for all models.
Lightweight Model: Load lightweight models when available.
Partial (structure only): Just load metadata.
Default load rule: You can choose from the available load rules. See Load rules.
Font: The default display font is SansSerif and the default font size is 11. You can change the display font type and size in the Font box. To view the font changes, you must restart the Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager.
Thumbnail tab:
The Thumbnail tab allows you to set options for thumbnails.
Set a default size at which you want Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager to store your thumbnail images.
Advanced tab:
The Advanced tab allows you to set options for save and load, as well as the default view for the structure browser in Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager. Not all options apply to Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager.
BOM settings:
Automatically resort position numbers: Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager automatically resorts position numbers after you make changes in the BOM Editor.
Automatically renumber children when saving BOM: Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager automatically renumbers position numbers of children items using the defaults set in the xml file for the initial value and increment.
Preserve duplicate position numbers while automatically renumbering children during BOM save: Preserves the duplicate position numbers and automatically updates position numbers of children items during a BOM save.
Enable BOM Versions: Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager enables BOM version management. For more specific options, see Advanced BOM Versions. If this preference is not selected, Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager only displays BOM Checkpoint items and Checkpoint commands. See Manage BOMs for more information.
Advanced BOM Versions: Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager uses advanced BOM version management (when Enable BOM Versions is also selected). If this preference is not selected, Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager uses simplified BOM version management. See Manage BOMs for more information.
Scan using model files (DDM data support): When you scan BOM, Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager calculates modeled quantities from Model files rather than from the database. Although this process is slower, you should check this box if you're working with assemblies saved in DDM. (DDM does not set the quantities of models when you save assemblies. When you scan BOM, Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager must open and read each file to calculate the quantities of models.)
Use same position number for splits: Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager uses the same position numbers for split parts.
Copy link attributes when creating splits: When you split a part, Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager automatically copies the link attributes, including position numbers, of the original to the new split item.
Show Copy BOM attributes dialog: Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager displays the Copy with BOM attributes dialog when you copy Masterdata. See Copy Masterdata with BOM attributes for more information.
Renumber using last position number values: When you renumber position numbers, Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager opens the Position numbers configuration dialog box with the last values you typed in the Initial value and Increment fields, or with the defaults set in the xml file.
Generate unique position numbers for BOM reports: Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager automatically generates unique position numbers for items with duplicate position numbers.
General settings:
Show minimal detail in thumbnail panel: Minimizing the detail in the thumbnail panel improves performance.
Enable database logging: Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager tracks your interaction with the database and creates a log file. If you have a problem while using Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager, you can use this log to identify the error. The log is placed in a directory on the server according to the TEMP environment variable setting.
Show a WorkSpace on startup: Controls whether the Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager Workspace appears. When working from Creo Elements/Direct Drafting, there may be occasions where you only need to save elements to the database and don't need to see the Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager Workspace.
Show the welcome screen: Controls whether Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager includes the Welcome screen. An administrator can always access the Admin Welcome screen by logging in to Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager Standalone.
Allow related files to be deleted: Controls whether the related files of a document can be deleted from the database.
Allow reserve/unreserve of previous version of Models in Creo Elements/Direct Modeling: Creo Elements/Direct Modeling reserves or unreserves the Model and displays a warning message. If this preference is not selected, Creo Elements/Direct Modeling does not reserve or unreserve the Model and displays an error message.
Send To CSV uses UTF-8 character set: Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager sends data in the UTF-8 character set when you click File > Send To > CSV. If this preference is not selected, Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager uses the local character set, SJIS or ISO88591-1 (Default).
Display the user full name for values containing the user name: Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager displays the full name instead of the user name for attributes which have the <IsUserName> XML tag set to true. (See the Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager Customization Guide for more information.)
Load settings:
Show load UI for 3D (default): The Load dialog box is displayed when you right-click a model and choose Load. If this option is not selected, the model loads without displaying the Load dialog box.
Show load UI for 2D (default): The Load dialog box is displayed when you right-click a drawing and choose Load. If this preference is not selected, the drawing loads without displaying the Load dialog box.
Show load UI for 3D (double click): The Load dialog box is displayed when you double-click a model in the Workspace. If this preference is not selected, the model loads without displaying the Load dialog box.
Show load UI for 2D (double click): The Load dialog box is displayed when you double-click a drawing in the Workspace. If this preference is not selected, the drawing loads without displaying the Load dialog box.
Load containers: When you load a model from the database, any containers and their contents in its assembly are loaded.
Load Containers (Simplification): When you load a model from the database, any simplification containers and their contents in the assembly are loaded.
Load Inseparables: Inseparable assemblies are fully loaded in Creo Elements/Direct Modeling. If this preference is not selected, inseparable assemblies are partially loaded.
Load Models as full when no lightweight model found: If a lightweight version of a model is not available, the model is fully loaded in Creo Elements/Direct Modeling. If you do not select this preference, the model is partially loaded.
Load Stock Parts: The stock/finish relation is fully loaded in Creo Elements/Direct Modeling.
Load with Masterdata: Models are usually loaded with Masterdata. Loading the Masterdata is required to pass BOM attributes from Creo Elements/Direct Modeling to Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager. If you do not need to set BOM attributes, you can turn this option off to make large assemblies load faster.
Load related models when loading drawings: When you load a drawing in Creo Elements/Direct Annotation from the database, the associated model is also loaded.
Set locked, changed assemblies as modified: The assembly is marked as modified when you do a top down save so you can create a new version of the assembly. However, your company's XML configuration file may not let you to create a new version of an assembly that is not reserved by you. Select this preference when your company's XML configuration allows you to create a new version of the assembly and you want to create a new version of the assembly when you save the part.
If this preference is not selected, the assembly is not marked as modified so you can still do a top down save without being forced to create a new version of the assembly. Use this preference if your company's XML configuration file does not allow you to create a new version of an assembly or if you do not want to create a new version of the assembly when you save the part.
Load root item using default load rule: Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager uses the default load rule for the root items and their children items. If this preference is not selected, Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager loads your selected version of a root item and uses the default load rule for children items. This preference also applies when you scan BOM.
Load and Save settings:
Minimize windows on load and save: Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager minimizes its windows so you can easily access the Creo Elements/Direct Modeling or Creo Elements/Direct Drafting window.
Refresh status after load or save: Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager automatically updates the status of the model after you load or save.
Clear old notifications on refresh: Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager automatically clears old items in Notifications each time it updates the status of the model after you load or save.
Use SYS IDs for Versioning: Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager treats models with the same system ID as versions of each other (regardless of their name). If this preference is not selected, Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager treats models with the same name as versions of each other.
Projects settings: (only if Projects are enabled)
Show change controlling project confirmation dialog: A dialog box requesting confirmation displays when you change a controlling project.
Save settings:
Generate associated drawings on copy: Drawings associated with a model is generated when the model is copied. The drawings are assigned unique names and have Drawing Status Needs Update. An HTML report showing the generated drawings is displayed in your web browser.
*
The associated drawing is not created if you use the Assign new SysID to local model command in Creo Elements/Direct Modeling to assign unique ID to the new model.
Create VRML files when saving models: Automatically creates a VRML 3D thumbnail, which can be viewed in a VRML viewer.
Generate associated non-CAD documents on copy: Non-CAD documents associated with a model are generated when the model is copied. The drawings are assigned unique names. XVL and eDrawings files are Status Needs Update. An HTML report showing the generated files is displayed in your web browser.
Show save UI: Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager displays the Save dialog box each time you save an item. If this preference is not selected, Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager automatically saves items using the default values set in your xml file, unless there is a save conflict.
Structure Browser settings:
Show files as children: The files attached to an item in the database are visible in the structure browser screens. This might include files such as word processing documents and spreadsheets. By default these files are not visible in the Creo Elements/Direct Modeling Structure Browser. Changing this preference takes effect when you restart Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager.
Show drawings as children: Allow you to see the drawings that belong to models. Changing this preference takes effect when you restart Creo Elements/Direct Drawing Manager. For more information, see <ShowDrawingAsHighestVersion> in the Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager Customization guide.
Masterdata-centric use model: Model, drawing and document files are organized under the part (Masterdata) items. If this preference is not selected, multiple versions of models, drawings and documents are displayed as individual items.
Show attachment folders for models and drawings: An Attachments folder is displayed for each model or drawing and assembly.
Show shares folders for models: The shared parts are displayed within a folder.
