The Object Menu
When the PTC Server connection is installed, an Object menu is added to the default Arbortext Editor menu bar. Use the Object menu to access the PTC Server connection features. Some of the options on this menu are only available when you are connected to a PTC Server or working offline from the PTC Server.
The following items are on the Object menu:
Use the Browser to view the contents of either the PTC Server or the workspaces available for working offline from the PTC Server. Browse is only available when you are connected to a PTC Server or when you are working offline from the PTC Server.
Use this dialog box to indicate the workspaces you would like to have available when working offline from the PTC Server. If you want to work offline immediately, you can also use the dialog box to disconnect from the PTC Server. Work Offline is only available when connected to a PTC Server.
• Connect or
Connect to Server — Displays the
Connect dialog box.
Use this dialog box to specify your user information and the PTC Server to access. When you are working offline from the PTC Server, this item is named Connect to Server.
You can connect to only one PTC Server at a time. Once your user information is verified, the Connect dialog box enables you to select the context and workspace in which you want to work. You can also create a new workspace.
Use this dialog box to change to a different context or workspace. You can also create a new workspace. See the Arbortext Content Manager or Windchill documentation for more information about contexts and workspaces. Change Workspace is only available when you are connected to a PTC Server or when you are working offline from the PTC Server.
• Search — Displays the
Search dialog box.
Use this dialog box to enter a query to find all PTC Server objects matching some search criteria. Search is only available when you are connected to a PTC Server.
• Revise Object — Creates a new
revision of the object currently open in
Arbortext Editor.
If the object you are revising has dependant objects, you have the option to revise any dependant objects in the same operation. Revise Object is only available for an object that is not checked out. Revise Object is only available when you are connected to a PTC Server.
• Check Out Object — Locks the object in which the cursor is positioned and checks it out in your name.
If the object you are checking out has dependant objects, you have the option to check out all of the dependant objects in the same operation. Check Out Object is only available when you are connected to a PTC Server.
• Undo Check Out Object — Unlocks the object in which the cursor is positioned without saving any changes made to the object since it was checked out.
If the object for which you are undoing the check out has dependant objects, you have the option to undo the check out for all of the dependant objects in the same operation. Undo Check Out Object is only available when you are connected to a PTC Server.
• Check In Object — Checks in a checked out object, making the updated object the current version of the object.
All subsequent retrievals of the current version will include the changes saved since the object was checked out. When checking in an object, all of its modified dependant objects are also checked in. For unmodified dependant objects, the check out is canceled. Checking in a PTC Server object increments the iteration number of the object. See the Arbortext Content Manager or Windchill documentation for more information about iterations. Check In Object is only available when you are connected to a PTC Server.
• Reload Object — Synchronizes the object in which the cursor is positioned with the corresponding object in the PTC Server.
Reload Object is only available when the object containing the cursor is checked out and has been modified, but not saved. Reload Object is only available when you are connected to a PTC Server.
|
Choosing > will discard all unsaved changes in progress to the object containing the cursor and restore the original contents of the object. If the object containing the cursor has any dependant objects that are also checked out, unsaved changes in those dependant objects are discarded as well.

This dialog box provides detailed information such as the name, creator of, and creation time of the object in which the cursor is positioned. Object Properties is only available when you are connected to a PTC Server.
This dialog box enables you to create document objects out of selected reusable regions in the document. Create Object from Selection is only available when you are connected to a PTC Server and when a reusable region of the current document is selected. Also, if the administrator has turned user override off in the burst configuration, the Create Object from Selection menu choice is not displayed.
• Check Out All Objects — Checks out all objects contained in a DITA resolved document for editing.
This choice is only available for a DITA resolved document for editing that has been opened from either a DITA map or a Windchill Service Information Manager Publication Structure or Publication Section stored on a PTC Server. The resolved document contains all of the DITA topics included in the map or structure and enables you to perform global operations, such as spell checking, on that content.
When you select this choice, a message dialog box opens when the operation completes indicating both the number of objects that were checked out and the number of objects for which the operation failed, if any. In the case where some objects could not be checked out, an additional log dialog box opens listing those objects and the reason why they could not be checked out.
• Check In All Objects — Checks in all objects contained in a DITA resolved document for editing.
This choice is only available for a DITA resolved document for editing that has been opened from either a DITA map or a Windchill Service Information Manager Publication Structure stored on a PTC Server. When you select this choice, a confirmation dialog box opens listing the objects in the resolved document that have been modified and will be checked in. Click Yes on the dialog box to check in the listed objects. Unmodified objects in the resolved document will have their check out canceled.
• Undo Checkout of All Objects — Cancels the checks out all objects contained in a DITA resolved document for editing.
This choice is only available for a DITA resolved document for editing that has been opened from either a DITA map or a Windchill Service Information Manager Publication Structure stored on a PTC Server. When you select this choice, a message dialog box opens when the operation completes indicating the number of objects affected by the operation.
• Disconnect — Closes your current PTC Server session.
Disconnect is only available when you are connected to a PTC Server.
