Connect Dialog Box
The Connect dialog box displays when you select Object > Connect in Arbortext Editor. Use this dialog box to establish a session to a PTC Server and to indicate the context and workspace in which you want to work.
The options on the Connect dialog box differ based on the setting of the UseNewAuthentication parameter in the userprefs.xml configuration file. The default setting of that parameter is True indicating to use the new authentication. When the parameter is set to False, default authentication is used.
Using the Default Authentication
For the default authentication process, the Connect dialog box enables you to connect to a PTC Server using either a user name and password or using forms-based authentication. You can also use this dialog box to work offline from the PTC Server with workspaces you have selected to be available offline.
The initial Connect dialog box contains the following options:
Connect to — Enables you to select the type of repository with which you want to establish a connection.
Select PTC Server to connect to a PTC Server.
Server — Enables you to select the PTC Server with which you want to establish a connection.
This menu shows all of the PTC Servers listed in the PTC Server connectionconfiguration file. The dialog box saves the last server you selected.
User Name — Enables you to enter your PTC Server user name.
The dialog box saves the last user name you entered into this field for the selected server.
If you opened Arbortext Editor from the PTC Server using the Open in > Open in Arbortext Editor action or a similar action, the dialog box shows the user name you used to log on to the PTC Server. This feature is only supported for PTC Servers running release 10.1 F000 and later.
Note that this option is not available for a PTC Server that uses forms-based authentication. In this case, the login form for the PTC Server appears in a control on the dialog box.
Password — Enables you to enter your PTC Server password.
Note that this option is not available for a PTC Server that uses forms-based authentication. In this case, the login form for the PTC Server appears in a control on the dialog box.
Work Offline — Enables you to work offline from the PTC Server with workspaces you have previously selected to be available offline.
Selecting this option makes all of the other options on this dialog box unavailable. Selecting Next in this case opens the Select Workspace dialog box.
If you are not working offline, enter the requested information and select Next. Note that if you are connecting to a PTC Server that uses forms-based authentication, then the Next option is not available. In this case, enter the required information in the form provided by the PTC Server on the dialog box.
Once your user information is authenticated, the Connect dialog box contains the following new options:
Context — Enables you to select the context in which you want to work.
This menu contains all of the contexts to which you have access on the selected server. The dialog box saves the last context you selected for the server.
Workspace — Enables you to select the workspace in which you want to work.
This menu contains all of the workspaces you have available in the selected context. The dialog box saves the last workspace you selected for the context.
If you do not have a workspace in the selected context, the PTC Server connection displays a default new workspace name user name on context in this option and will create the new workspace when you click the Finish button. If you want to create the new workspace with a name you choose, click the New button.
New — Displays the Create New Workspace dialog box.
Use this dialog box to create a new workspace for a selected context. If you select a different context in which to create the new workspace from the one previously selected in the Context field, the value in the Context field changes to the context selected in the Create New Workspace dialog box.
Back — Displays the initial set of Connect dialog box options.
Finish — Establishes the connection to the selected context and workspace on the PTC Server.
Using the New Authentication
For the new authentication process, the Connect dialog box enables you to connect to a PTC Server using either a user name and password, forms-based authentication, or HTTPS client authentication.
Work Offline — Enables you to work offline from the PTC Server with workspaces you have previously selected to be available offline.
Selecting this option makes all of the other options on this dialog box unavailable. Selecting OK in this case opens the Select Workspace dialog box.
If you are not working offline, enter the requested information and select OK. The dialog that appears next depends on the type of authentication supported by the PTC Server.
If the PTC Server uses user name and password authentication, the Connect dialog box displays the following options:
User Name — Enables you to enter your PTC Server user name.
The dialog box saves the last user name you entered into this field for the selected server.
If you opened Arbortext Editor from the PTC Server using the Open in > Open in Arbortext Editor action or a similar action, the dialog box shows the user name you used to log on to the PTC Server. This feature is only supported for PTC Servers running release 10.1 F000 and later.
Password — Enables you to enter your PTC Server password.
In this case, enter your user name and password and click OK.
If the PTC Server uses forms-based authentication, the Connect dialog box displays the form containing the required authentication information. In this case, enter the required information in the form provided by the PTC Server and click OK.
If the PTC Server uses HTTPS client authentication, what is displayed next depends on how many client certificates are available in the designated Microsoft Windows certificate store or stores. If only a single client certificate is available, the PTC Server uses that certificate for authentication. If multiple certificates are available, the Authentication Required dialog box displays. In this case, select the appropriate client certificate to use for authentication and click OK. Note that if the PTC Server only optionally requests an SSL client certificate, the authentication proceeds whether a certificate is available or not.
Working Offline
If you are working offline, selecting Next or OK on the initial Connect dialog box opens the Select Workspace dialog box. If you have not selected any workspaces for use offline, the dialog box just contains a message telling you that no workspaces available for offline use. Otherwise, the Select Workspace dialog box contains the following available options:
Context — Displays the context in which you can work offline.
You cannot change the value of this option.
Workspace — Enables you to select the workspace in which you want to work offline.
This menu contains all of the workspaces you have made available for use offline in the displayed context.
Finish — Starts the offline session.
