PTC Server connection Overview
The PTC Server connection enables Arbortext Editor users to use a PTC Server as a content management system for XML and SGML documents. A PTC Server includes the Arbortext Content Manager and Windchill. The PTC Server connection provides an interface between Arbortext Editor and a PTC Server. Using this interface, authors can access document objects stored in a PTC Server directly from Arbortext Editor. For additional information on working with a PTC Server, refer to the Arbortext Content Manager or Windchill documentation.
The PTC Server connection provides the following capabilities:
• Authenticating PTC Server users.
• Creating new workspaces.
• Accessing, changing, and cleaning workspaces.
• Browsing the contents of a PTC Server with the capability to expand folders and compound documents.
• Browsing all PTC Server objects where another object is referenced.
• Searching both the properties and full text of objects.
• Displaying properties for an object.
• Checking out, checking in, and canceling the check out of PTC Server objects.
• Authoring XML and SGML documents stored in a PTC Server.
• Displaying object boundaries and status in the Arbortext Editor Edit view and document map.
• Inserting references to objects and graphics selected during browsing into a document.
• Disallowing deletion of an object that is referenced by other objects.
• Importing documents and referenced graphics from a file system into a PTC Server.
• Bursting documents into multiple objects when checking in, uploading a document to the PTC Server, or importing a document into a PTC Server.
• Working offline from the PTC Server.
Users of the PTC Server connection should also be familiar with using Arbortext Editor and Arbortext Content Manager or PTC Windchill.
