New Document Dialog Box
The New Document dialog box opens when you select File > New. Use this dialog box to create a new, unnamed document based on a document type you select. Document types are organized by category. Some document types have a sample document available to show you what the document type looks like. You can also access custom document types from this dialog box.
An unnamed document is stored only in temporary memory until it is saved. It is strongly recommend that you save the document soon after creating it. Some Arbortext Editor operations, such as automatic file saving, will not work unless the document is saved.
The New Document dialog box contains the following options:
Category — Displays the available categories for the document types.
The default document types available in Arbortext Editor are organized into categories based on the types of documents that you can create. Your administrator might have added additional categories for custom document types or removed some of the default categories.
If you are using the PTC Server connection to connect to a PTC Server that has the Windchill Service Information Manager solution installed, then you might see a category for document templates stored on the PTC Server. In this case, the name of the category will be Context [PTC Server]. Context is the name of the PTC Server context in which you are working. PTC Server is the name of the PTC Server to which you are connected. The Dynamic Document templates defined in that context on the server appear in the Type option when you select the PTC Server category.
Type — Displays the available document types for the selected Category.
Each document type has a template and possibly a sample file associated with it.
To locate a document type that is not listed, first try selecting another category. If the document type you want is not listed in any category, click Browse and use the Select DTD/Schema dialog box to locate the document type.
Browse — Opens the Select DTD/Schema dialog box.
Template — Indicates Arbortext Editor should open the template for the selected document type.
This option is selected by default. If a template does not exist for the selected document type, this option is not available.
Sample — Indicates Arbortext Editor should open the sample document for the selected document type.
If a sample does not exist for the selected document type, this option is not available.
