Invalid Markup Overview
Tags and attributes that do not comply with the document type are considered invalid markup and can come in any of the following forms:
Tags not declared in the document type
Invalid attribute values for a declared attribute
Undeclared attributes
Arbortext Editor contains mechanisms for validating document structures for the following conditions:
Opening new documents not created in Arbortext Editor
Saving a document
Working inside the document
Validation processing may show that a document contains invalid markup. All errors within the document should be corrected eventually. However, Arbortext Editor will allow you to fix the errors in future sessions.
When a new document is loaded into Arbortext Editor, its document structure is analyzed for form, function, and proper SGML and XML markup compliance. If there are errors, error messages will display and the tag icons will display in red with a strikethrough effect. Once the Arbortext Editor parser finds the errors, you are not forced to make all corrections in your current session. All markup, including invalid markup, remains in the document until you correct it.

Documents that have change tracking turned on can also highlight deleted text and markup with red strike-through (as well as other colors).
