Arbortext Editor validates document structures based on the associated document type at the following times:

Arbortext Editor has two levels of document structure validation: context checking and checking for completeness. Arbortext Editor does context checking interactively while you create the document by not permitting you to insert elements or text at invalid locations. Since context checking is usually on, you need not worry about creating a structurally invalid document.

The only time context checking does not apply is when you import a document that is structurally invalid. In this case, context checking is turned off so Arbortext Editor can bring in the document. Then, if you want a valid document, you need to correct these errors, which Arbortext Editor can identify for you.

Checking completeness is not done automatically. You invoke a completeness check through the Tools > Check Completeness menu choice or the associated toolbar button. If Arbortext Editor detects any issues during the completeness check, they are reported in the Completeness Check Log window.
