Column View Overview
Column view is an Arbortext Editor view specifically designed to support document types that primarily consist of element and attribute content and have relative little text or other inline content. Column view combines a structural view of a document with a series of rows and columns, similar to a spreadsheet, where you can view and edit the attributes of the elements in the document. To use Column view for a document type, it must be configured in the document type configuration (.dcf) file. Once Column view is enabled for a document type, you can use the Columns category of the Preferences dialog box to configure how the column are displayed.
In the default Arbortext Editor installation, Column view is only enabled for the DITA Map and DITA BookMap document types. Column view is also available for XUI (XML-based User Interface) dialog box documents. Refer to the Customizer's Guide for more information about XUI.
Column view has the following components:
Column view heading — Provides the title for the column.
This is the cell at the top of each column. You can right-click on a heading cell to open the Column view heading shortcut menu.
Outline column — This is always the first column and provides a structural view of the document.
You can use this column to view and change the structure of your document.
Attribute value column — This column contains the value of the attribute associated with the column.
You can use these columns to view and change attribute values. You can right-click on an attribute value cell to open the Column view attribute columns shortcut menu.
Modify attributes column — This column contains various modify attribute icons and is usually the second column.
You can use this column to view all attributes with currently assigned values for an element that are not default values, even if the attribute is not currently visible in an Attribute value column. You can also modify the values of displayed attributes in this column.
Scroll boundary — Determines where columns scroll horizontally in Column view.
You can set this boundary in the Column view preferences to determine the place in the Column view columns where the remaining columns scroll horizontally. Note that the Outline column never scrolls.
