Creating Variable Lists
Prerequisite: Arbortext XML DocBook document type
The variablelist element allows you to create two kinds of lists:
Two-column aligned — Consists of a term in the left column aligned with text in the right column.
Vertical — Consists of a term followed by text.
To insert a variable list:
1. Type set smartinsert=on at the Arbortext Editor command line to turn on Smart Insert.
2. Click the Insert Markup toolbar button.
3. In the Insert Markup dialog box, select lists as the Category.
4. Select variablelist from the element list, and click OK. Arbortext Editor inserts the variablelist, varlistentry, term and listitem elements at the first location in which they are allowed.
5. Insert your cursor between the term tags, and type the name of the term you want to add.
6. Press the TAB key twice so that your cursor is between the listitem tags, and type the text associated with the term you entered.
7. Press ENTER to add another term.
To set the method of alignment:
1. Click on the varlistentry element in the Document Map.
2. Press CTRL+D. The Modify Attributes dialog box opens.
3. Click the Page 3 tab.
4. In the role field, enter align to align the term and its associated side by side or linebreak to vertically align the term and its associated text.
5. Click OK.
