Configuring Smart Insert
Smart Insert helps authors maintain a document's structure without having to worry about precise cursor placement. If an author selects an element that cannot be inserted at the cursor position, Smart Insert finds a valid insertion point and inserts the element.
You configure Smart Insert in a document type's .dcf file.
To configure Smart Insert for a document type:
1. Open Arbortext Architect.
2. Choose File > Open.
3. Locate the directory in which the document type that you want to configure is saved, and click Select.
4. Once the document type is loaded, choose Edit > DCF. If the document type has a .dcf file, it displays in the Arbortext ArchitectDCF Editor window. If there is no .dcf file associated with this document type, Arbortext Architect automatically creates one.
5. Locate the SmartInsert element in the DCF Editor. If the file doesn't include a SmartInsert element, add one.

Open the Document Type Viewer (Tools > Document Type Viewer) to view the element hierarchy for the .dcf file, to help you determine the valid location for the SmartInsert element.
6. Place your cursor next to the SmartInsert element, choose Insert > Markup, and select Category.
7. Click next to the Category to open the Modify Attributes dialog box.

You must have the Force Required Attributes EntryEdit preference selected for this dialog box to open automatically.
8. Type the category name in the title field. This name will display in the Insert Markup dialog box when Smart Insert is enabled.

You must configure at least one category to enable Smart Insert.
Arbortext Editor automatically alphabetizes the category list in the Insert Markup dialog box, except for All, which is always placed last in the list.
9. Click OK.
10. Place your cursor next to the Category element for which you configured the title, choose Insert > Markup, and select ElementListItem.
11. Choose the element that you want to display in this category from the element list.
12. Click OK.
13. Repeat the previous steps to configure additional categories and elements in them.
14. Choose File > Save to save the changes you've made to the .dcf file.
