About Coordinate Systems
You can use coordinate systems as references to place other geometric references and entities such as datum points, planes, coordinate systems, or imported geometry. For most of the modeling tasks, you can use coordinate systems as directional references.
Create a coordinate system by selecting a geometry type:
Planar surface
Cylindrical surface
Nonplanar surface
Linear curve or edge
Axis
Point or vertex
Coordinate system
Coordinate systems require an origin and directions for the x-, y-, and z-axes. You can define the origin, change the axis labels, and flip their directions as required.
