When you create a configuration, Creo Elements/Direct Modeling adds an item in the owner assembly that stores position information. In the example shown below, the assembly owns more than one configuration, so they are displayed together inside a pseudo folder:
After you create the configuration, you need to move the parts or assemblies with dynamic positioning or any other positioning method.
To create a new configuration,
1. Click Structure and then, in the Configurations group, click New. The Create Configuration dialog box opens.
2. Select an Owner in the Structure Browser. This must be an assembly.
3. Type a Name for the configuration, or accept the generated name.
4. Select an Attachment for the configuration:
◦ Instance: Saves the configuration information in the assembly's instance file.
◦ Contents: Saves the configuration information in the assembly's contents file.
5. Select a Pos Mode (positioning mode). This affects where parts move when you activate the configuration:
◦ Absolute: If you reposition the parts in the standard view (with no configuration active), the parts will move to the exact positions defined in the configuration.
◦ Relative: If you reposition the parts in the standard view (with no configuration active), the parts will move into positions relative to their standard locations.
